Football During Coronavirus Crisis

Let's be honest, the amount of covid case being felt at clubs are going to pale into insignificance compared to the amount of infections fans who are going to contract covid on the stands.
Yes 90,000 new cases today, 80,000 yesterday. Throw in hundreds of thousands of football fans mixing together around the country and we will be in chaos by this time next week. It will be like Russian Roulette at the game and I'm speaking from personal experience as I caught Covid at Wembley in the summer, despite following all of the guidance etc and being partially vaccinated. Personally I'd prefer them to just call a halt to it as we all know the dangers of going but that won't put people off as most of us having been going down to villa park for games our entire lives and not going out of choice is usually only the very last resort and is a tough habit to break voluntarily.

What I don’t understand about Covid is that it seems those who catch it, are ‘random’.
By that I mean, my wife caught it - I didn’t social distance or treat her like lepper, just carried on as normal and me nor the kids got it.
The same for a few other friends of mine. I also had a road trip with a mate, who was coughing during the trip, 48hrs later found out he had it….i was fine again.
Last week however, stomach bug ripped through us all.
I wonder if its genetic?
for a virus that seems to easily transmissible, you’d think it would leap onto anyone within a certain proximity.
Seem people just seem unlucky

Not as if they are well paid to be in peak fitness is it. I really do wonder what would happen to this country if it ever faced another war. Pathetic really.
It is unbelievable isn't it what do they think is going to happen if they take it, someone needs to tell these idiots that 8.5 billion vaccine doses have been administered over the course of 12 months and only a tiny fraction of people have had any complications

Would be a massive help if they made it clearer how many are in hospital now with no jabs, and how many have died with no jabs. Just madness to me all this.

Agreed. But, I had my booster today and my arm is ferking painful 😬

we all know the dangers of going but that won't put people off
I'm not sure I do. With the amount of vaccinations there is a lot less benefit to lock down activity than before. All the accounts seem to be that the new variant is less threatening than the previous incarnations.

Not according to Chris Whitty who in the conference yesterday said that there it was too early to say and there wasn’t enough evidence either way and to be guarded against this particular story at the moment.

Ok. Whitty is not saying anything either way until he can be more definitive. By accounts I meant reports from the field.

We are all done as well. Im quite surprised they do not say how many as a percentage are in hospital are vaccinated and how many are not? Its apparently a lot more unvacinated.
A member of the staff at an icu in London just said on the news that the majority were unvaccinated, but you're still going to get people who say they won't get vaccinated, and it won't affect them.

The HOPE is it is weaker. But several experts have said it is too early to know. You can't use South Africa early impressions as a guide, they have a younger population for one thing.

I thought it was Whitty the other day, might have been another who said there was no reason to think this is weaker at the moment

Dr Hopkins said that the earliest there would be reliable data on Omicron would be in the week between Christmas and New Year, with around 250 people with confirmed Omicron needed in hospital for a full study on severity.

Hospitalisations always lag a few weeks behind infections, therefore it isn't surprising that we have started to see people being admitted to hospital with the Omicron variant. Our data shows that getting the booster vaccine is more effective against this variant than two doses alone. Everyone over 18 is now able to walk into a vaccination centre so do not hesitate to get yours. from Dr Susan Hopkins Chief medical adviser UKHSA

Just to re-iterate, there is bound to be some overlap, but this thread is for as much covid talk as possible:

This thread is for talking about it specifically football related as much as possible.

One of the comments to Villa's plans now was along the lines of 'it's only the vaccinated folks who will be spreading it, us unvaxed lot are in the clear because of the test but they want to punish us'.

It seems some just fundamentally don't understand science, let alone viruses and Covid itself.

Yes, just about what you would expect. If they published the figures though it might convince a few of the unsure ones to have it. You will always get a hard core that will never get it.

Its going around London like the plague because nearly 1/3rd are unvacinated. Against 89% of the country have had at least 1 jab.

Quite a few managers calling for a firebreak now as well, be interesting to see if clubs start requiring vaccinations prior to signing given Gerrard admitted it would be something we are now looking at as well.
