Football During Coronavirus Crisis

I brought up longest standing ST holders before and the argument against is they want to attract the new generation of ST holders as well.

I still, as you two say above, think it is the fairest thing, reward those who have been there through thick and thin. I don't think they view it the same though.

I can't remember how they were going to do it last time when there looked like fans being able to go.

Sure it was a ballot , it will be in the FCG minutes .

I take the point about the next generation but, with respect, they are wrong and they need to take their heads out of the spreadsheet.

You don't get hooked at Villa Park by the football or the result, you get hooked by the crowd, the atmosphere and the banter with 'your group' whether that be travelling group (friends/family) or simply that mini group around you where total strangers become best friends for 90 minutes.

If anything, particularly after this last year, depriving the longest standing fans is counterproductive as if they feel marginalised - lose the habit or bug - why the hell would they go out of their way to bring the next generation of their family through?

And I'd imagine bringing along family, taking family + their school mate(s) far outweighs normal Joe Bloggs who turns up unannounced having no tie whatsoever.

Think it was a random ballot Den, least that's what I remember as I know most here favoured longest serving first.

Yes, a proposed ballot, can't recall the exact details, think some were ST holders, others members.

Ok, so following the FCG last week,

A few of us were thinking before hand, unless this is a testing ground, what is the point?

They answered it well, before questions needed to be asked really. The motivation comes from the Gov dates set. But also, if it gets the green light for 10 000, and they can show themselves capable of holding it, IF we are limited next season, who knows, proving they can run a good, socially distanced match, might double (or whatever) the allocation allowed in.

Still think it should be the most long standing season ticket holders personally, but as I have put that point to the club a few times, I didn't ram it home this time, mainly because they have so much to think about right now and I know it wouldn't be agreed with anyway.

If it isnt, it makes a total mockery of the season ticket system.
PS, I am not a season ticket holder.

It will be a ballot of all season ticket holders, so even those who got one for the half season (not their fault) as opposed to those who have been going 30, 40 or more years.

I have talked about rewarding loyalty before, in regards to season ticket prices, their argument is they want the next generation to come forward who could become the next lot of 'long standing' season ticket holders.

My counter argument, lose the die hard long standing generation and you are buggered as some of 'us' go through thin and thinner. Others, one of my mates in fact, disappeared during relegation, didn't like last season because we played so badly and all of a sudden, is a top fan again.

Football must be the only business that continually shoots itself in the foot time after time.
They never learn.

Not really. You could have someone who had a ST for 25 years and had a 1 year break due to any number of issues . There is more to it than oh look at me i've had a season ticket for ages

Then factor in the one year break and make it current season ticket holders, and use their total number of years as a season ticket holder.
Nothing to do with oh look at me, and everything to do with putting your money where your mouth is.

and what about 18 year olds who may have only had a ST for 1 year as they start their journey in working life and pay the hard earned money for a ST. They should not be discriminated against either

what i dont believe is fair is say someone who has had a ST for 30 years being given preferential treatment over someone who has had a ST for 2 years . They should be treated equally along with fans who may even only buy say seats 6 times per annum on a regular basis . All fans, all equal.

So if all fans are equal then why dont we have a ballot for Cup Final tickets for anyone who has a booking history with Aston Villa.
That is done on a season ticket basis and everyone seems to accept that.
What is the difference.

I’m not a long standing STH compared to some as I wanted to play rather than watch when I was in my 20’s along with frankly not having the money to afford the cost of it, but all for longer term STH’s getting a higher weighting or even first dibs of tickets - to me it’s fair.

Yes, I would be more than happy for anyone with a better booking history to me, to be getting the tickets. Not even a question for me I have to say.

I'm all for the 10k longest continuous ST holders, my son and I have 15 years in the current seats but my Grandaughter who is 10 only has 6 years we might just scrap in at 15 years she won't have a chance, I've been going 53 seasons but never had a ST before 15 years ago, we never sell out so they were really pointless. I can't count the other 38 seasons as I wasn't an ST holder.
There are loads of fans ahead of me who go home and away I really think they come ahead of me, as they are really committed far more than I am

Because going on a cup run is very different to a global pandemic and restricted crowds which could go on indefinitely . Huge difference
