football civil war

kick em out oif the prem and if they dont like the fl rules, kick em out of that too. if they want to start a new league and take other plastic clubs with them so let them go and make it very very very expensive to get back in and start at the bottom.
hmm, its only a bit more advanced than merryknackers trying to move our ground tho, so kinda fook him too in many instances :)

One of the arguments has always been that our league is the most exciting. For relegation scraps it can be but how often has the destination of the title been a mystery going in to the last half a dozen games? And how often are more than two teams involved?

It’s become little more than a procession and no matter how much $ky try to big it up the race for 4th or Europe is not something to get excited about unless you are in it.

And when was the last time someone other than the usual suspects won a cup? Or were even in a final?

For me greed and self-interest have ruined the competition in this country.
well, been some fantastic championship battles betwen pool and citeh the last few years and 3 of em amongst it this season not to mention fester wthin the last deacde , who actually own both didnt they? And at least 5 clubs still go into a season thinking there's a possibility they can challenge so it isnt quite that bad

Sorry no one should bend over for City - if the EPL relegates them or they play in another league then the non true city fans will find another team to cling onto.

We need to try and find a way to level it up like they try in F1. It's boring when 4 teams are only able to win.

Absolutely agree. Its just marketing spin and hype.

Personally, though, IMO, its the most entertaining:

Germany - farmers league, awesome stadiums and fans
Spain - technically brilliant, but the racism is something else
Italy - slow, shit, boring, sub-standard players
France - like a mini spain, without as much blatent racism

I think I agree with bash- I reckon the championship is the most entertaining league. it is also probably the most difficult given the number of games.

yes the quality is not as good as the PL most of the time but way more unpredictable and thus more entertaining.

wot a shame itv never got it's shit together to create some of that magic hype.

This is the last ten years. Take a look at the gaps to 2nd and to 3rd. There are perhaps 4 seasons where it was close between first and second. There are pretty much none where it was close between first and third.

It’s bizarre that the Championship doesn’t get more coverage given that it is one of the highest attendances in Europe.

I honestly think if any or all of the EFL clubs fucked off it wouldn’t be long before the league righted itself. Money would obviously reduce to start but a few seasons with really close enjoyable title and relegation battles and you would see the money start to come back.

One other thing to consider - 9 of the current EPL teams are owned by Yanks. Another 5 and they have the 14 votes they need to start making changes… 😳

put like that- terrifying!

multi ball anyone?

this is what an ex financial advisor to citeh thinks

basically they blagged it all before the rules came in but have little chance to overturn apt rules. he thinks it won't impact on their 115 charges.

only if they lose imo. if they win this one then it could have an impact.

Leicester City?

Not sure about all this clamour about being in the championship? Most sports people aspire to be the best that they can be.

Assuming relegation and promotion remain in place and Forest were in a promotion chase in the championship they should take their foot off the gas to stay in the championship?

If that notion should prevail then wouldn’t the same sterile competition persist in the championship, then would it be any different to the EPL?

To quote Kennedy: we do these things not because they are easy, but because they are hard. Just because challenging the monopolistic elite is difficult doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try.

ive heard folk moan when it was dominated by liverpool, then man utd, then arsenal, then chelsea, now citeh sooo seems really a generational thing, one team gets super strong it takes a while to catch up. But go back 50 years in other leagues they dont really have that continual change of dominant sides, and presumably we have more clubs with european trophies than most other leagues put together

Can you see a pattern?

2 anomalies in 20 years. Both of which threw £ at it.

It’s not a clamour to be in the Championship. It’s expressing a preference. Nobody is running round shouting ‘relegate us now’. Besides Forest seem more than capable of doing it on their own…

Again, it’s the fact that while the name may change, the level of competition rarely does. The battle for the title is rarely a ‘battle’ anymore. So $ky are trying to promote the battle for 4th, the battle for Europe. As if anyone other than the contenders gives a shit…

That is the stuff of nightmares.
But I think any government would step in if any of the changes are detrimental to the football pyramid.

If it votes to be a closed shop there is nothing the Government can realistically do.

When Bolton were in the Prem their owner raised the issue but it was voted down by the other clubs. That was then though…

There is also the prospect of reducing the league to 18 teams which is something UEFA want as well. That may be harder to sell but it’s still out there.

Yeah UEFA want that of course so they can dream up another meaningless European competition for teams that basically aren’t very good. No thought for the fans that would get 2 less home league games for their ever more expensive season tickets.

I'm sure the government could do lots of things if they really wanted. They could tax football transfers, tickets, tv income etc to build up a pot of money to help the other clubs - or spend on the NHS !

They could try. Unfortunately it would mean all clubs banned from Europe and no National team. This is why they are looking for an independent regulator. The rules in place don’t permit government interference.
