No

Anything and everything you buy in North America has a tax applied to the sales price. Each state has a differing level of sales tax %.



In Canada it’s a straight 13% called HST

The UK has vat built in to your price. What you see is what you pay. Much prefer the UK

what i would say further to this, and I haven't seen what Trump has said, but even though VAT isn't a tariff doesn't mean Trump hasn't said that it is the same as a Tariff, simply because he doesn't understand VAT, or many things really.

Two different things.

If you want to eliminate unfair trade practices, then do so. But a tax on all goods is not one.

If you want to pretend that a tax is a tariff in order to hurt your allies then that is another matter and exactly what Trump is doing.

Don't excuse it or pretend his doublethink is reality

yes completely different depending on location. I was living in texas last year and running my business, and in my accounts i have to add in the address for my business and client business and system (Alavara) calculates correct tax, and it changes a little based on even your street. I had to charge state tax, county tax, and then the township tax, but in all it was about 8% on physical goods, zero tax on services.

I am not sure on the tax implications of the auto companies or traders importing cars, but i know that if i imported a car from the US to the UK, that is less than 2 years old you get stung with a lot of costs which i guess you could call tariffs? customs charge and then VAT on top. I think import duty is 10% and then VAT on top. Cars are pretty cheap there but with shipping, these tax costs and then some DVLA charges too it becomes really expensive and not worth it.

Although I believe if you have owned the car for 1 yr+ you don't pay customs and VAT

Just pointing out our vat rate of 20% isn't going to help in any upcoming talks about what's going on with regard to USA and these tariffs
