The Fear

A Wise Man (once sat next to him)
WHOOP... fibre optic broadband ordered... just out, they are doing mine 20th July. Speed from between 5 – 8.41 now... speed when they do this upgrade will be up to 61 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will make a huge difference business wise obviously!

Anyone else got Fibre doo dah??

yep - bit of jiggery pokery freeing up a socket for the fibre modem but otherwise 5 min job
5-6 previously to a pretty solid 50+
Sorted out a number of probs with streaming and dropping vpn connections which were previously a pita

I had fibre optic with talktalk and got rid within a month as it was still playing up connection dropping off etc, since i moved to Sky on basic broadband i have far less trouble and happy, it may be where is was situated for Talktalk not sure though tbh

I think I'm supposed to have that at home but it's up to 10, best case scenario. It's probably not the real deal at all, they just call it fibre optic because that's what people want.

Yeah got it at home @ around 25meg but at work the other night I manager to comect wirelessly at over 90meg

You will be amazed........

I look forward to being amazed then Col8 !

Business partner had it in our offices in Stockport and he says it was a dream compared to normal so looking forward to it.

Think that is cable as opposed to fibre optic kk, which I believe is different. I could be wrong.

I'm with PlusNet, and get 76 Mbps. The speed on a BT line depends on distance from the junction box, and mine is across the road rom me. It's about as quick as it goes.

Virgin have their own cables and can get up to 150+.

Just to let you know, it is well worth having. The increase in upload speed is probably more of a benefit than the download speed. Uploading to Dropbox etc is just so quick.

You will enjoy it Fear, especially on that lovelt TV you've got!!

Not too far from me the new junction box so should be pretty decent!

For some reason we qualify in this area for a 12 month government grant, so no increase in price from what I already pay until next year!

Our little town in deepest darkest South Deven were the first in the country to switch up to the new fibre broadband....

Anyone ever had their Broadband through Vodafone?

Experiences? Positive or negative?

I'm currently with BT and pay £30 per month for approx 50mbps (usually a bit less than that).

Just had an email from Vodafone saying I can switch to them for £24 per month with £0 connection or equipment fee. They claim average speeds of 63Mbps and gaurentee speeds of 55Mbps or money off until its fixed.

Seems to good to be true.

I assume they still use the same BT landline to provide the connection? i.e. as it's vodafone it's not dependant on mobile signal strength at all?

I would also get £80 cashback too from Topcashback so over the 18 month contract it works out at £19.56 per month.

Seems too good to be true.

My sister has it. It is reliable and their router is good for smallish houses. They let you use your own router, which I set up for her. It has better coverage.

The only problem they had was three months with no broadband after moving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I doubt that will be a problem for you.

If you ever come to live in Spain try to avoid Movistar (Telefonica) as they promise you the world then, later on, you find they were lying. (Many local people refer to them as "theives" and the prices they charge for everything is extortionate.

Due to lack of competition, we were with them for 10 years, 3 years ago they promised Fibre Optic in our town and our house would be included. They came did around a 3rd of the town and then left leaving massive amounts of cable redundant and tied up to houses just blowing in the wind. They blamed the council but that was another load of lies as the council told them and the public "this is not true they are not telling the truth".

Finally, this year in stepped a local company https://www.ibred.es/en/ib-red-fibre-optic/ and completed all the work for the whole town and we went from around 2.30 Mbps to an average of 45-50 Mbps and half the price (39 EUR) that the "thieves" at Movistar charge.

The difference is amazing and you will love it JF!
