Fake Controversy

The Guardian are reporting that people were outraged by Hammond saying that he doesn't eat ice cream because he's not gay.

It's a weird comment and probably just a failed joke.

Perhaps I'm not sensitive enough to gay issues but it seems to me that nobody would take something the ex-Top Gear fellas say seriously.

For the record, I love ice cream. Perhaps I'm gay and I never knew it?

If you want to read the nonsense from The Guardian, it's here: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2016/dec/27/richard-hammond-ice-cream-gay-the-grand-tour

The Guardian is a seriously failed newspaper.

Two weeks ago they ran a story about a women who was scared she might get sued by Donald for shooting fake / parody photos of him in compromising situations, ie having a trump look-a-like hugging KKK members - and that should be protected by free speech. Two pages later they had two articles complaining about the alt-right spreading 'fake news'.

It's a problem caused partially by having newspapers online. In the olden days, a cross-section of letters would be printed. Now every loopy leftie can spout off to his or her heart's content in the Gruaniad or Independent whilst the Colonel Rippingtons from Tunbridge Wells can get fully indignant on the Telegraph site.
I won't say too much about those whose extraordinary utterances can be found in the Daily Mail and Expresso.
(But the Sun is great, especially for its football coverage and particularly for its Aston Villa blog....)

I've got to agree with that. The standard of their reporting has been getting worse and worse over the past few years.

They are almost a parody of themselves now.

They are smug gits mind you.

All very childish stuff, including the papers talking about it.

I know some brands try to use the controversy angle to create articles advertising their products.

HP did it pretty effectively when they reduced the salt in their sauce.

Want everyone to know that your sauce is now healthier? Make it a controversy!

People do seem to be lining up just waiting to be offended these days I must admit. We've called each other gayers for years. When one of the top posters on here came out, I started calling him a straighter. It's banter. But Hammond does come over as a silly little spoiled kid for me, they're so scripted and fake.

He's changed a lot since his accident.

I can't stand the childish little shit these days

I've posted this before and it says it all.....and it's funny!

Well the good news is they are no longer on the BBC. If you don't want to watch them don't, if you are particularly sensitive you can end your subscription. I find it amazing that people are offended by Top Gear but Mrs Brown's Boys is somehow acceptable.

Just to be clear, I'm not offended, just gone off it and find them three smug gits. (For me) it was funny, now it's old and stale.

As you say, easy enough to avoid. I gave it a chance badger boy, can't say I've not been fair with them! :3: :17:
