Entrepreneur Mark Zuckerberg is to invest a total of three billion dollars (£2,294 billion) to cure the world of disease.

The couple aim to cure all diseases in the lifetime of their 10-month-old daughter, Max. Zuckerberg has said those behind the project are already "building a world-class engineering team", which will help scientists and medical experts conduct research into the world's various diseases.

Very good of him.

His daughter can enjoy growing old on a planet of 15 billion people scrapping for food and water.

Then again I'm sure she'll be given safe passage to the nearest earth-like planet along with the rest of the filthy rich elite, as our grandchildren trawl through the scorched wastelands of planet Earth for scrap to sell while being hunted by motorcycle gangs.

It's going to happen, I've seen it in the movies!

3 billion from inventing something that helps ruin the world....make it everything he's earned and I'll clap.

Geeky twat who happens to be good in front of investors whilst not making a profit I believe.

There's more chance of the Incredible Hulk taking the No 9 shirt next season.

Although the be fair, I'm guessing he'll only cure diseases that have more of a mark up on facetwat than people showing what they had for dinner.

Prove me wrong - we've had Bill Gates so far....yay burden schools with Microsoft and once they know how to use it, tell them you've discontinued support for that particular version.

Think you are wrong. He has invented something, he has made a fortune. I applaud that.

He is now looking to give a large part of that fortune to good use.

I see nothing at all to slate in that I must admit.

Bill Gates has done something similar with his money though has spread it accross the board

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (or the Gates Foundation, abbreviated as BMGF) is the largest private foundation in the world, founded by Bill and Melinda Gates. It was launched in 2000 and is said to be the largest transparently operated private foundation in the world.[4] The primary aims of the foundation are, globally, to enhance healthcare and reduce extreme poverty, and in America, to expand educational opportunities and access to information technology. The foundation, based in Seattle, Washington, is controlled by its three trustees: Bill Gates, Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett. Other principal officers include Co-Chair William H. Gates, Sr. and Chief Executive Officer Susan Desmond-Hellmann.[5]

It had an endowment of US$44.3 billion as of 31 December 2014.[3] The scale of the foundation and the way it seeks to apply business techniques to giving makes it one of the leaders in venture philanthropy,[6] though the foundation itself notes that the philanthropic role has limitations.[7] In 2007, its founders were ranked as the second most generous philanthropists in America, and Warren Buffett the first.[8] As of May 16, 2013, Bill Gates had donated US$28 billion to the foundation.[1][9]

You've got to love a good tax right off

Billions invested into people doing a job, who take a nice wage thank you very much, who in turn spend those billions with other mega Corp inc, who take a very nice wage thank you very much, and so on

I wonder how much actually reaches those in real need?

Having witnessed first hand a high roller from a charity bragging about his lifestyle, I have become a bit of a sceptic

Cynicism is fine and justified in this modern world and I think a lot of people in charities are paid way too much... etc

But the point still remains, if he is putting $3billion to a good cause, it is $3billion that the good cause /s didn't have before.

Whether it actually gets to where it should, fine, agreed, remains to be seen.

It's not his 3billion though....what has facebook made, other than (if memory serves lost him some friends)?

If I now create a company that gets the zietgeist (sp) and is purely funded from, what is reported as, equity companies mainly with a shareprice that doesn't grow as expected once floated....whose money am I giving back?

I'm not snorting at the 3billion - it'll help, it always will.

But Zuckerburg, even the you can't criticise Steve Jobs.....and they are by no means alone, Donald Trump with his small loan of millions from his father and multiple bankruptcies and all his recent revelations....

It's a PR stunt...if you're genuine, don't tell anyone.
