Ex Villa legend Chris Nicholl

Pride of Lions

I am now official
Don't know if anyone has seen this but I felt it needed airing.

Ex Villa legend Chris Nicholl 'can't remember where he lives' due to heading footballs.

This of course is due to brain damage caused by heading so many footballs during his career, very similar to what Jeff Astle died of.

You may know, Alan Shearer is in a documentary regarding this. It is called Alan Shearer, Dementia, Football and Me is on BBC1 on Sunday at 10.30pm.

Maybe we could organise a game against Southampton, a club Chris played for and managed, to give him support and to highlight the problem.

Yes he is struggling now and features on Alan Shearers programme.

All linked to the campaign by Jeff Astles family to have degenerative brain disease caused by constant heading of the ball to be treated as an industrial injury.

Four or five of the 1966 World Cup winning squad are also suffering from dementia;

It's dreadfully sad. Similar situation in the NFL in America with brain-related injuries, even with the helmets.

Sad for Chris and all the others. Does Shearer have symptoms then? I had no idea!

Don't think Shearer has symptoms. just with his heading and reputation he's the 'guy' to head up a programme like this.

Least that's how I understand it, but when it was on the news I may have been distracted with my skin crawling when he was speaking to Gordon Taylor.

'Head up' - see what you did there Mike.

I despise Gordon Taylor, for what it's worth.

:4:

If only I'd thought of that when typing I could take credit lol

I didn't particularly like 'him' to begin with for various reasons, but on this topic I just flash to his interview with Astle's daughter the other year (or was it wife? daughter I think) and huge credit to her for walking out because I'd have stood and applauded had she picked up the chair and rammed it round his podgy little face with what he was saying and the disrespect he showed given the interviews I watched.

He is one of the most vile, self-centred, self-serving and self-enriching scumbags I've ever seen in football, and that is saying something.

How he is still in a job is just beyond comprehension. A poor man's Sepp Blatter, at best.

:5:

You have the Field concurrence JPA. It's the highest honour I can bestow on you. Now bow down :11:

Oh it definitely helps...I meant more along the lines of taking the mickey out of me when I cock up next lol

On that score - have a good weekend I'm off, something stinks at any rate.

Chris Nicholl is a true legend, I will never ever forget his years at Villa. Ian Ross is another - just a magical pair, great memories

Should be a very thought provoking programme tomorrow. Shearer reckoned he headed the ball hundreds of times a week , such was the amount he practised to perfect his heading and is understandibly worried about the effect it may have on him in the future.

I read in the Evening Mail that Steve Bruce is planning on having tests as he had a fair few head injuries in his playing days.

That might explain some of his decision making!.

In all seriousness. It's thought provoking because of course the effects will not just be the preserve of professional footballers. It could be your Sunday league player who has played for 30 plus years.
