Much better second half from Wales once Kieffer was on, and he almost scored too. Fair result overall.

I've seen in a newspaper article that he 'can't wait to beat England' - he needs to remember where he comes from, who brought him back when it looked like his career was going downhill fast and who he now plays for.

Agentina caught napping at the start of the second half, then some resolute defending by their opponents. Emil Martinez couldn't do much about the goals conceded. Poor second half performance by Argentina. 105 minutes on the clock at the end, but the Millers have probably already beaten that this season. :rolleyes:

K.MOORE played whole game, not booked
HT : 0-0 (Kieffer almost scored, but Iran looked dangerous on the break)
FT : 0-2 (Two late Iran goals, after Wales' keeper Hennessey was sent off)

Wales were forced back into their own half as the game progressed. Iran also hit the woodwork twice.

Deserved red card for Hennessey. Iran outplayed Wales in 2nd half. Gareth Bale hasn't played enough top class football recently and did little. If KM had scored in 1st half might have been very different though. That said the Iran forward should have stayed onside when he got his goal disallowed and he would still have scored.
 
I've noticed that quite a few teams have forwards who must be close to retirement. Uruguay played to accommodate Suarez's lack of mobility and when he came off replaced him with Cavani. Teams are also playing people who have hardly kicked a ball all season. Very odd. Haven't seen many really exciting youngsters yet - other than a couple for England.

Not sure if Emil even touched the ball in the second half!( Poland settled for a low-scoring defeat, guessing correctly that would be all that they needed to progress).
Argentina progressed to the "Last 16".

FT: 2-1 (Big deflection for Aussie goal, good save by Emil at the end)
Argentina progressed to the quarter-finals.

Argentina won 3-4 on penalties.

Emil Martinez didn't have much to do during most of "normal time" other than the last few minutes, or extra time either, but he turned out to be a penalty-saving hero for Argentina!
Great fightback by the Netherlands in the latter stages of "normal time", but they then decided to just defend in extra time... which proved to be the wrong tactics.

Argentina progressed to the semi-final.

2022 World Cup Final
Argentina v France (k.o. 1500)

E.MARTINEZ played whole game, no goals/"assists", booked for "gamesmanship" during the penalty shoot-out.
HT : 2-0 (Emil had little to do in first half)
FT (90 mins) : 2-2 (late comeback by France)
After extra time : 3-3 (great save by Enmil in extra-ime)
Agentina won the World Cup, 4-2 on pens.
(Emil saved the second penalty, the third missed the target)
EMIL MARTINEZ was awarded his World Cup Winners medal, and the "Golden Gloves" award for the best keeper of the tournament. Congratulations to him - the only ex-Miller to achieve that!
