17/09/20 Europa Qualifying Round 2.
James Tavernier scored from a free kick as Glasgow Rangers won 5-0 at Lincoln Red Imps (Gibraltar). Although Rangers were expected to win, the Imps did beat Celtic 1-0 in their home leg in 2016!... but they still went out on aggregate (1-3)

Additional... just realised that another ex-Miller, Scott Wiseman, was playing for the Imps tonight . He was released by Salford City over the summer.

In five years time do you think you will be starting with a full-line up of 'now' Millers playing in Europe, Mike?!!!
 
If the rules hadn't been changed regarding the Welsh Cup, we would probably have a couple more from Cardiff - Will Vaulks and Kieffer Moore. Don't forget that Dave Gwyther played in the European Cup Winners Cup with Newport County!
Think Emil Martinez has already played in the "Europa", though less likely in the near future, now he's with with Villa . Matt Derbyshire fairly recently played in the "Europa" for Omonia Nicosia, but is no longer with that club.
Joe Newell is still a future possibility (fitness permitting), or even Scott Allan (!), as Hibs almost qualified last season.

Current Millers players? Unless they are transferred to a top Premier club, it's more likely to be with Scottish/ Irish teams, or possibly somebody finishing their career on the Mediterranean somewhere.
Full line-up might be stretching it a bit though!

Well, I just wondered maybe, perhaps, well, rose coloured glasses but maybe the Millers might be in Europe in a few years!!!

I think that the current squad might get us qualified now, if we were playing in Scotland!
 
24/09/20 Europa Qualifying Round 3 tonight. Glasgow Rangers are away at Willem II of the Netherlands. Tavernier is playing - is he the last ex-Miller left in the competition?

Additional - just spotted another one .... Jake Hastie is now playing for Motherwell on loan. Motherwell are playing Hapoel Be'er Sheva away and he is on the bench. (He was unused sub in previous round when they won 5-1 against Glentoran) .The 'Well are losing 0-2 tonight.

Update 1 - Full time for Motherwell. They lost 0-3 (Hastie unused sub).

Rangers are doing better though. Currently leading 2-0 after Tavernier put them ahead from the penalty spot.

Rangers v Galatasaray tonight - Galatasaray are likely to be much tougher opponents than Rangers have faced so far in the competition.

Tavernier in Rangers starting line-up

Update 1 : HT 0-0

Update 2 : Rangers leading 2-0 now. Tavernier involved in the build up for the first goal. Then shortly afterwards scored the second - with a header!

Update 3 : FT 2-1. Rangers go through to the next stage of competition - Group Stage

Last ex-Miller in the competition, Tavernier , is in the Rangers starting eleven.

Update 1 - Tavernier put Rangers ahead from the penalty spot after 19 minutes

Update 2 - HT score : still 0-1

Update 3 - Full-time score 0-2 (Roofe got second)

Tavernier starting for Rangers in their game at Benfica tonight. (1755 k.o.)

Update 1 - After conceding an own goal in the first minute, Rangers now lead 2-1 at half-time.
Benfica have had Otamendi sent off.

Update 2 - Rangers leading 3-1 now, with Rangers captain Tavernier setting up the third goal

Update 3 - Late comeback by 10-man Benfica though! ... final score 3-3

Europa Group D : Rangers v Benfica, 8pm kick off tonight. Tavernier is captain in Rangers starting line-up.

Update 1 - 8 mins : Chaos in the Benfica goalmouth, Tavernier header hit the bar, then Arfield's follow-up put Rangers ahead

Update 2 - HT score1-0

Update 3 - 80mins : Rangers went 2-0 up (Roofe), but like previous game, Benfica came back with late goals (two in three minutes, first was a Taverier own goal!) 2-2 now.

Update 4 - FT 2-2. Rangers threw away the chance to get through to the Europa knock-out stage tonight. Still in a strong position to progress though.

Tavernier starts for Rangers again

Update 1 - It has been an action packed first half! Standard Liege have gone in front twice, but Tavernier has just equalised from the penalty spot.
HT 2-2

Update 2 - 63 mins Arfield makes it 3-2 to Rangers

Update 3 - Tavernier booked as Rangers hold on, and don't drop any clangers in the last few minutes (for once!). They have progressed to the "Round of 32" stage, with a match to spare.

Rangers have already qualified for the next stage, so Tavernier is being "rested" and is only on the bench tonight.

Update 1 : HT 0-1

Update 2 : 66 mins - Tavernier on as sub. Still 0-1

Update 3: Score 0-2 now. Tavernier has just headed narrowly over the Lech cross bar. Only a few minutes to go

Europa League - "Round of 32" First Leg
Royal Antwerp v Rangers tonight (2000 k.o.)
Tavernier starts for Rangers.

Update 1 : 25 mins - stiil 0-0. Tavernier has had to be replaced due to a knee injury.

Update 2 : 38 mins - Rangers have just gone one-up

Update 3 : Antwerp bounced back with two goals just before half-time.
HT score 2-1

Update 4: Rangers have just equalised from the penalty spot. 2-2 now

Update 5: 66 mins- Antwerp have just made it 3-2

Update 6: A few minutes to go.... Rangers equalised, then got another penalty for handball (Seck sent off) and Rangers scored. 3-4 now.

Update 7 : Finished 3-4
