Blimey, it's a bit light between the sticks but there realistically isn't anyone else. It's not a squad to strike fear into the hearts of the International big boys, but maybe having zero expectations can work in our favour.

Between 2002 and 2006 we had squads that struck fear into the hearts of the international big boys. Yes we made the quarter finals regularly but the only 'big boy' we beat was Argentina in 2002, and they weren't exactly at their best.

I'd rather have a squad of good to average players willing to work hard for each other, rather than a load of 'superstars' who just can't play together.

I guess we'll just have to see if these players can play together and are willing to work hard.

Surprised there is no Bertrand with Rose being injured/out of form all season. I’d have tried to squeeze Wilshere in, probably over Welbeck as we don’t need four strikers when we only play one up front - I think if we are taking four strikers then one needs to be a different type of player so on the basis Andy Carroll was nowhere near the squad, I can’t see the point in taking four.

Other than that, I’m not that surprised, the squad is mostly as expected. I also expect an injury or two, which won’t be the worst thing given Lallana - one of our best players when fit - is on stand by and ready to step in.

A fairly obvious squad, but woukd have preferred Lallana over Delph, Shelvy iver Wellbeck and Tarkovski over Jones. I hope that Southgate doesn't start with Stirling, but if he does I hope Stirling proves me wrong and bangs in a couple of goals. Scoring for Man Citeh is one thing, but England do not have the same level of creativity.
My team, in a 3-5-2 formation would be
Pickford
Walker, Stones and McGuire
Trippier, Dier, Ali, Henderson, Young
Kane, Vardy
...but I reckon it will be a 3-4-3
Same GK, back 3 and wing backs, but no Ali and a front 3 of Stirling, Kane and Wellbeck

Surprised Delph is in there as he's played at LB for City this season and with Young and Rose in the squad as the LWB can only presume Delph is going to be used in midfield so he's been chosen ahead of Wilshere.

Personally would have had Bertrand in for Young, Wilshere in for Delph and Shelvey in for 'Danny i'll play one game then miss the rest of the tournament' Welbeck.

As Terry Butcher said this morning, it's likely to be team that will grow over the next four years. Interesting about Shelvey, the MOTD often talk about his good points but also point out flaws in his game. Hart has let in too many goals this season to be a real contender and I agree about Wilshire but he's desperately injury prone. Other than that, you can't please all the people all of the time.

For my lifetime we’ve been putting together a team for the next four years.

Wouldn't it be a nice change to go out playing a decent game, and being unlucky rather than the dire rubbish we gave had to put up with for so long, or winning it playing the dire rubbish we have had to put up with for do long?

Many a average side have done OK in the tournaments, its all depends on the draw etc.

In recent years we have lost the expectation of the fans BUT we have also lost the passion on the pitch and playing as a team

This is a average side but are they a team and do they have the passion?

I think we will get out of the group but will probably lose in the first knockout game against a half decent side. That could be the second round or the quarter finals if the draw is kind.

I'm glad we can't get relegated, as I think we would do with that team! Let's just play with passion, and go out in style lol

Yep, agree with that. This bunch at least look like they know each other when they turn up and there are no massive egos in there (although Kane will probably try to claim everything that goes anywhere near the opposition's goal LOL)
Funnily enough, I picked my ideal starting 11 and it was exactly the same as yours. I think this lot might just have a little surprise for us.

Mehmet, I think you need to change your phone or, work on your accent. I'm finding it awkward to read your posts!!

About 20/1 with most bookies, I always stick a cheeky tenner on for a laugh. One day, one day ?
