England won Test match series v W. Indies 2-1 and One-day series v Ireland 2-1. New Test match series v Pakistan starts tomorrow (05/08/20)

Pakistan finished a rain-interrupted Day One on 130-2. Forecast for Day 2 (Thurs) - cloudy all day but low probability of rain

The weather looks good for the next few days over Old Trafford.

Pakistan seem to have got a bit into this game I think.

Pakistan have done well today...
Close of play Day 2
Pakistan 326 all out (Masood 156)
England 92-4

I was hoping England could keep the Pakistan team to under three hundred.

That didn't work and then a nightmare batting start for the home side.

Thank goodness for Pope is all I can say.

Day 3
Update 1 - Pope out for 62. Dug in well this morning. England only have the tail-enders left to bat now, although Bess can block ok sometimes. Only 127-5, so still a long way behind.

Update 2 - England 219 all out. "Long-tail" team selection needed early order batsmen to perform well - other than Pope, they didn't.

England get back into the game, with Pakistan 137-8 at the close of play on Day 3. Both sides have missed chances in the field, but ones missed by England have probably been more costly. England look about 50 runs short, although they still have a chance, but only if the top order can bat well in the second innings. Tough task tomorrow.

The other half and I have just said the same - England let Pakistan get about fifty too many and then got fifty short themselves.

Let's hope when we get back batting our opening pair last a while.

Day 4 - Some effective slogging by the Pakistan tail-enders this morning gave them a total of 169 all out. England 51-1 at lunch and still need over 200 more to win - not easy.

Update:
Impressive, though rather nail-biting, England comeback (277-7) to win by three wickets. Very good batting performances from Buttler (75) and Woakes (84 n.o.).
England go 1-0 up in what could be a "see-saw" series.

Didn't see any of the final session as we were sat in a friend's garden but we were keeping in touch on our 'phones. Sounded exciting! We did contemplate did we deserve the win - but whether we did or not we have it!

Stokes out for remaining games in the series due to family illness problems . Likely recall for Zak Crawley, who looked good against Yorks at Canterbury last season. Big step up from County Cricket though, and Pakistan are a good bowling side.

2nd Test started on time this morning - England have Sam Curran in for Archer, and Crawley for Stokes. Pakistan won the toss and batted first. England have dropped two fairly straightforward catches. Rain stopped play at 62-1 (Early lunch taken)

Those catches - shakes head!
A rain-interrupted day, but it worked in England's favour . England managed to hold onto a few catches later in the afternoon! Finished Day One with Pakistan 126-5.

Day 2 - Start delayed due to bad light / rain
Update - England struggling to remove Pakistan tail-enders. Gone off for bad light with Pakistan 223-9

Day 3- No further progress. Start delayed due to bad light. Weather forecast for the whole day is not good.
Update : Play abandoned for today (Sat) without any play - still raining
