EM - has any EPL owner ever made a stronger move??

We did the same with Pearce under Frank Clark. A new 4 year contract and record breaking 8k per week at the time. What we've with MGW is a statement of intent and there will be incoming before we kick off against Brentford. CHO will be signing a new contract very soon. If you know you know. Also, MGW is better than all the Leicester players you mentioned combined.
When did Clark
It doesn't really set a precedent because the other players aren't Morgan Gibbs-White.

He's the guy we're building the team around. Other players can move.
The only other player like MGW is Milenkovic or maybe Sels imho, and either of them are more replaceable.

And as for the Maddison thing, Maddison isn't MGW either. He doesn't have that level of professionalism that MGW and he doesn't do the work on the pitch. That isn't going to just go away from Morgan, he will do the same amount of work this season as last, if not more. Not only that, he'll know he's got to prove himself again to us now because eyes will be on his performances.
Doubt Maddison was unprofessional given he was their captain.

Clarks first season as manager he signed Pearce up on a record breaking 4 year contract at 8k per week.
When we were in Second Division

I think this is a very fair comment.

Fuck me, Marinakis has come through here.

We can all accept that we'll sell a crown jewel a year for PSR, that's how it goes. That was clearly part of our summer plan. But two is critically damaging- both to the team, morale and our image.

Marinakis has refused to allow that, and fair play to him.

I said two weeks ago that you can forget CHO signing a new contract with MGW and Elanga going. Now the ambition is clear, perhaps resigning will be on the table, and that just runs confidence through the side. Aina, Williams, Murillo, MGW, Sels, Wood all rewarded for their achievements last season and on long term deals, Anderson already on one- if CHO signs too then we have a long term core with a really good mix of ages.

More than anything, we don't have an MGW sized hole to fill.

Losing Elanga is disappointing but expected. We need to replace. But replacing MGW always looked extremely difficult. It needs doing or planning for now, not on the hoof. My biggest fears for this season have always been based on an assumption that MGW will go.

It means that we have zero squad, but we are going to have an attack to put out against Brentford at a time when they are in disarray. Jesus may have to play out of position (if we don't sign anyone) but we can play a first XI. It means we only need to integrate one or two key first teamers in the next three weeks, and none of them will be critical.

Its a big, bold move

And it's my birthday today, so thank you Mr Marinakis!
Nice to read such a positive post. Happy birthday 👍🏻

Levy is known for being tight with cash. He will be offered a decent wage but doubt it is in the £200k ball park. Probably over the £120k though.

A massive huge statement from the club, the owner and the player and at long last we're actually keeping a player instead of losing one to the so called big six. As for the so called big six - fuck you we're coming for you.
Remind me who the big six are
? Based upon nearly been relegated Spurs and Man United are disqualified from that club.

Nuno might well be thinking "Be careful for what you wish for". Now Marinakis is giving him a brand new train set, he'll be expected to get CL football as a minimum next year. No excuses.

Naah.

I don't think Marinakis is that detached from reality.

If he buys a squad like Chelsea's then he has the right to demand CL football.

I am sure he will absolutely expect Europe again, CL I'm not so sure, that's a huge ask, unless we can win Europa...

Our squad simply does not and will not match up to Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and a couple of others. We're not even close and never have been.

It would be crazy to DEMAND Champions League football.
Yea, to expect CL would be silly. Expecting improvment is fair enough, but I don't think we can judge "improvement" solely on league position. Last season, for large parts the stars aligned for us to be where we were. Obviously that luck didn't quite hold, but we are unlikely to be better in terms of league position this season. We need to look at performances, squad depth etc and judge "improvement" with more of a broad view rather than just looking at the basic metric of league placing.

Top half in the league and a decent run in Europe is reasonable success. Obviously, I'm hoping for more but I wouldn't be sacking N'uno if that was the outcome.
Very difficult to juggle both, especially without experience.
