EFL Statement: Reading Football Club

I am gobsmacked that the EFL allow clubs to run with debt of £39m even if it is over a 3 season period. Budgeting to allow those loses is immoral as we all know who will suffer when the administrators cream off their fees while making the tea lady redundant. It is time football clubs had to operate within the income they get from gate receipts, sponsorship and whatever they get from the EFL prize pot. Spending over this amount should be punishable on a sliding scale from 3 points down to relegation and expulsion from the pyramid. Harsh? maybe, but something has to give.

So they made a bit of a jaffa .... slap across the wallet .... couple of sanctions ie point or transfers or both . EFL happy - club happy .

why punish supporters when its out of the hands , not as if anyone here supports Reading , do they ? lol . no interest to others

it'll get well sorted .

Well worth them spending multi millions they don't have to maintain their league placing, wasn't it? Six points only? Just one Saturday & a mid week result sacrificed. Bargain for them.

And no deterrent whatsover to all these financially abusive clubs.
Greenlight to all of them to spend whatever they like and cheat all their opponents.

Until the League dish out minimum double demotions and lengthly transfer fee bans, nothing will ever change.

Problem is, endemic over spending by many clubs artificially inflates wages across the board and that hurts my club who try and live responsibly in their means.

It also rewards reckless clubs that get lucky on the back of taking these risks - such as a promotion to the PL which wipes out the debt; knowing the EFL are going to do very little that will actually hurt them enough to act as a deterrent should their gamble not come off. In other words, for some morally bankrupt clubs it is a risk worth taking.

Strange club. Even people in Reading don’t support Reading.

Agree with everything said - a proper punishment needed otherwise what’s to stop them spinning the roulette wheel again?
