Eddie Howe appreciation thread

Vital Champions League
Think he deserves one. 6 of the 14 players used on Sunday were at the club before the takeover. 3 of them in the starting lineup. Not a proud statistic from the clubs stand point but just further proof he wasn't backed and that the players he has would run through walls for him. Not many English managers winning anything these days

Im not blowing my own trumpet as ive never had anything but appreciation for him and I called for his appointment long before it happened as well.

As it is, this old thread is quite interesting.

I did not think he would take us higher and thought he was too loyal to certain players.
As it has turned out I am happy to be proved wrong

20th Dec - Newcastle are 12th, 11 points behind 2nd place Chelsea 📉

11th May - Newcastle are 1 point off 2nd, and 3 points ahead of Chelsea 📈

Only Liverpool (46) have earned more points than Newcastle (43) over the last 20 PL games 👏

UCL qualification is within sight ⚫⚪

Time to put some serious respect on Eddie Howe's name. I said after we won the cup that regardless where we finish, this is the best season at least in my lifetime. For the players we have to go out and grind the results the way they have and have that desire even after winning the cup has to be admired. Haven't spent now in 3 or 4 windows but the players we have are really giving it their all, its hard to criticise any of them. Obviously the majority of this is down to some miraculous work by the management. Champions league would be the icing on the cake but not end of the world if we don't qualify. Winning a cup and qualifying for Europe in any way is nothing short of a miracle.

Even more appreciation because regardless of some people’s opinions we are now a top 4 club.

Add all of the last 3 seasons points totals together and we are ranked 4th overall, some 5 points ahead of Aston Villa. Us and them can now be classed as one of the big 6.

Howe's recent contract renewal includes a boost from £6m a year to £9m a year if we get CL.

Unless we can increase revenue and income to the levels of the septic six then we can't compete. Easy thing to say 'change the manager' but this is the hand we have been dealt with.

Look we can get funds from sales, plus we spent nowt in January. I think its an excuse to be honest. A great Manager will get us there with backing. Whether thats Howe is another question. Not convinced so far by the board either

Ive said it before and i'll say it again. Howe has the credit in the bank with the things he has achieved here plus a quite long list of excuses we could use like the added extras of not getting any of his first 5 targets in any position plus the distraction of the Isak saga to be allowed to finish the season. Surely we can't become this fickle club that doesnt allow mistakes to be rectified.

Once the dust has settled and the furore of everything dies off, people will realise we've played more games than anyone else with one hand tied behind our backs due to not being able to pay the wages that the sky 6 can with Howe's main ambition being to still compete on all levels and he has tried.

People have short memories when only 5 minutes ago we had the Ashley tenure ramming statements down our throat of cups not being important as well as them limiting the turnover we could generate due to the syphoning off of the clubs potential to greater the cause of the tat empire.

Im not saying people can't moan or blame or criticise results, decisions or formations etc but to chop and change for the sake of it could very well see us become a poisoned chalice.

For me, Howe gets the Summer to build again and reflect on where he can improve stuff. If and only after that 3 month Summer break where he's bought, trained and tweaked his tactics, training or whatever and we still see stagnation or failure then a 10 game appraisal should be taken out to make sure we don't have another Kenny Dalglish saga.

In Howe's own words he says that you can never enjoy the highs too much because the lows could drown you and hopefully Howe now takes stock of everything and gets the squad in seige mentality mode again to prove the critics wrong.

Getting funds from sales means we have to sell one or more of our better players and hopefully replacing them with better players and still be left with the players that are at the end of their careers like Trippier, Burn and Krafth. The 2 full backs we have that are in the England squad we could sell but you would need £40m each to break even so what have we gained? Every saleable player we have cost us a decent wedge so an injection of money will have to come from outside of selling any of the saleable players in the squad. Maybe sell the womens team for half a billion to a subsidiary company would do the trick.

Some players win want out with no Europe so hope we somehow get there.
the Owners have messed up big time with delayed appointments of executives and a disastrous transfer window. The Manager has not helped with his choice of signings in the transfer window. The Isak issue was badly handled and delayed incoming transfers. We need a new backbone to the side, Goalkeeper, centre half and centre forward to start, time to improve our young players and give them a chance to shine, rather than sitting on the bench. The Manager needs to ditch some of his favourites, who are past it. No young forwards have emerged from the academy apart from Miley and he is not an out and out forward. Too many wingers who deliver little and are inconsistent.
Wilson was brought in because he si supposedly good at identifying quality foreign bargains, now is the time to confirm that.

There is an argument that no European football may be a godsend, ignoring the lost revenue

Its a world cup year so little time off for key players.

I think Bruno and Tonali will stay but the likes of Livramento, willock, big nick, murph can leave as far as I'm concerned.

Schar I like and would keep

So now we hear the Saudi's are thinking of selling the club. I hope not but after all the barriers that were put in their way, not just by Masters and his other puppets who dance to the tune of the septic six but the deals that Ashley put in place before the takeover which Mandy was chief negotiator hampered us so much and cost millions. Having to sell Anderson and Minteh for less than there true worth to comply with a new rule and I bet there is no sell on factored in on those deals. You can't but think 'would you continue with this scenario'. What is the point? Let them get on with it. And Howe is having to wade his way through this shit. He has my admiration

Howe is also the Manager who keeps players like Alex Murphy, Neave and others on the bench game after game with no game time. Howe was responsible for Wissa and big Nick. Howe also has the same excuse every time. He earns a fortune, I have no sympathy for him, criticism is part of the job. The Hierarchy are a lot to blame, Ameobi in charge of loans is a disaster but like several other older players currently in the squad is a big influence behind the scenes according to Howe.
We will go no further than we are with Howe, so if you are happy with occasional but unsuccessful flurries into Europe and top half of table then no change

Back at it and with quite a bit of training time on top of the mental break. Coupled with the fact that Crystal Palace played last night should see the pressure firmly still on Howe if we manage to lose on Sunday.

Talk about short memories - have people forgot the Sunderland game already? No excuse for that 💩I like Howe a lot (thats why i started this thread) he's arguably our best manager in recent history but he either leaves a legend or overstays and becomes reviled. I think we need a change, for a few different reasons:

1. A top manager can pull players
2. Howe's blatant favouritism to players
3. Stubborn formation/tactics

We had an absolute nightmare last summer in the transfer window. Not saying that's all down to Eddie but I genuinely think somebody like mourinho gets at least one of those targets who chose other clubs. A top manager instills a winning mentality, we are way too easy to play against. A lot of points to play for and we should be aiming for points in every game bar maybe arsenal but I'd like to see us contributing to their monumental bottle job. So we'll see what happens end of the season but I'm not confident of beating anyone after the Sunderland game. Especially with Bruno out.

As for the summer window can anyone honestly see us buy all the players we need as well as getting deals done early with Andy howe running transfers and it being world cup year??
