Eastleigh

Seems with one point from the twelve available, when we’ve played Eastleigh in this league, we’re still not adapting to National League football.

What is it we’re doing wrong or not doing.

Answer appears to be, from the write ups, we lack anticipation, we’re not reacting to what’s going on around us. Yesterday we conceded from three set pieces, now I would read that as conceding directly from the first touch after the dead ball situation, as a result of a header say. But we’re not it’s the second ball situation we’re not dealing with.
This is typically pools as it is happening all over the field, we’re not winning many if any second balls. We’re not switched on, alert or planning ahead and thinking ‘what might happen if...’ we just try to deal with the first situation and basically react to the consequences which as we seen yesterday was Loach retrieving the ball from the net.

We’re five points off fifth bottom, that’s how tight it is from mid table to the final ‘safe’ spot. We need to be better but for whatever reason this squad doesn’t even look like play off material never mind automatic promotion. We’ve not improved [much] in the time we’ve been here.

We need to move forward but can we do it with this set of players?

Five games left, we are nowhere near the pretendy playoffs, next year something similar may just seal our fate as a non league club, three consecutive seasons and we’ll be here for a while longer, we’ll just settle in and accept it, some [of the players] already have.

The Mail writer seems to think it all happened because Frazer Kerr didn't play. Kitchen came in at the last minute who we all know is ok going forward but cant defend. I thought Edgar was meant to be good and they have all been praising Anderson in recent weeks. Hignett said they knew Eastleigh were good from set pieces but was puzzled as to why the pools "rearguard" were so inept at dealing with them. Surely no less than three cock ups from three set pieces suggests there is something badly wrong with the defence. On the bright side we seem to be attacking a lot better but not putting the ball in the net. I agree some serious changes to the defence need to be made if we are to get out of this league any time soon.

Surely the issue isn't just with defenders, back 4 or whatever, dead ball situations require all the outfield players to be clued up as to their role / responsibility.
Five games to go a haul of 5 points should be attainable!

Yes we should be ok for this season but the issue is the bigger picture: ie promotion to the Football League preferably next season. We struggle against the better teams in this league so promotion will not happen without changes to playing staff and mental attitude.
