Draper new deal

I’ve had my doubts about Freddie (& Ben) over the last two or three years. Both of them give away unnecessary fouls, usually from behind or over-zealous use of the body. Ben still frustrates me as I think he could be a much better player if he could learn to use his physicality better and bide his time in the opposition half when he has the player bottled up heading the wrong way. Instead of keeping the offensive going in the opposition half he ends up quite the opposite - giving away a FK which lets the opposition off the hook and puts the pressure back on us. Please help him coaches.
As regards Freddie - I have a feeling he will be a much better player this year. The transition he made last year after he came out and said early season he had re-evaluated where he was going, his physical development, etc was impressive and shows that he thinks deeply about his development. If he discusses that with the coaches as well it can only be a good thing for his career and the club.

Do we see Freddie establishing himself this season though, especially if we land the two new target men players that are strongly rumoured to be incoming.

Freddie has to play ever week to show his best form. Otherwise his body shape means he loses match sharpness.

I hope I’m wrong but I can only see him being a useful bench player this season.

I tend to agree with you Mike.

I'm a Freddie fan and watched a lot of his games when he went to Ireland but I don't see him as leading the line in the Championship for us. He has attributes that will allow him to be a valued member of the squad but he would have to improve his goal ratio considerably to be leading the line but at that minute I don't know where ANY goals are going to come from within the team which is why we are probably trying to secure the lad from Sweden.

I know we had a few who pitched in with goals last season but we're now at a completely different level, playing better quality players in better quality organised teams.

Loved to be proved wrong and he plays and scores regularly but my opinion is that he will start most league games on the bench.

There will undoubtedly be times when we need his ability to hold the ball up as an outlet. He was a handful for some very experience CB’s in L1. As we all know this season will be an incredible test.
But many underestimated Jovon’s potential, so fingers crossed for Freddie too.

Lets wait and see if it is true he has signed a new deal.

The Sky Employee who broke it is normally very accurate so hopefully it is true as I am a big Freddie fan.

I think Freddie gets seen as a big lad, and the defenders play on it.

Ben - if he hasn’t scored recently then yes, he’s awful and needs chaperoning around the pitch. Otherwise he has got better at keeping his cool… he’s not great at it still - but better!

Michael Skubala said last season, that off the ball, he thought that House was the best player in the League.

I argue with my eldest a fair bit about Ben, pointing out the number of turnovers he forces. A certain ex-Head Coach talked about him setting the tone for the rest of the team wrt the press. Frustrating as heck when he gets the inevitable Yellow. Get’s me wondering if we will notice a difference in the quality or approach of the refs.

Huge part of what we do and epitomises the 'whole is greater than the sum of our parts' success. Will have a vital role to play in the Championship even should he only contribute 5 goals and 5 assists over the season.
