Dr Shipman vs Two Tier Kier

Thought a football style thread tithe would be appropriate for Tuesdays vote.

Will Labour MPs cruelly vote to remove winter fuel payments from our country’s vulnerable Pensioners? If so it’ll cause more deaths amongst this group than Dr Shipman ever managed. Or will they vote with their conscience? It’s a choice, leaving it alone will not crash the economy as TTK claims. Over to them. The country will be watching and they’ll be forever judged on this.

It’s very easy to take money of people that can’t fight back. But we’re supposed to be top country. Pensions are a disgrace. Compared to other countries. Party for the people. My Arse. 300 Quid Sad state and a very broken country we live in. Just wait what comes next And let’s see how many are brave enough to vote against it.

It’s utterly vile. A purely political decision that has backfired spectacularly. Meet the new Nasty Party, worse than the last.

There's no doubt it's disappointing that such a (seemingly heartless decision has been taken. I'm not too up on the detail - I believe that those who need it most, those on pension credit - will still get it, but there's no means testing beyond that, which probably means that some who really do need it, won't.

I'm not sure if the argument that the commitment to the triple lock will balance out any losses carries water, but it's an argument they're unlikely to win.

WBL, I fully agree that the state pension is a disgrace ... I hope you were just as angry about it during the past 14 years.

Notwithstanding all of the above, Labour must believe that it's a storm they can ride out ... which is why they're taking it in their first year in office. Time to climb back up the popularity charts later ... but voters have long memories.

A positive thought ... if Labour manage to recover some of the funds from the scandalous PPE VIP Lane beneficiaries sharpishly, then the WFP can still be reinstated before Christmas.

the illegals won’t be cold this winter that’s for sure. Or giving billions to Ukraine
"The illegals". :slap:

A few decades ago, we had the cold war. The west spent billions on defence, protecting itself from the potential threat from the USSR.

With some sensible(ish) folk in charge of both superpowers, the threat was steadily dismantled, the iron curtain was torn down, countries previously annexed by Russia took up their own identity again, and peace - however fragile - ruled.

The psychopath Putin threatens to undo all of that.

So the government has defeated a motion and as such they are removing the winter fuel payments from pensioners. It is thoroughly shameful, there is no defending it. My 93 year old Nan can barely leave the house and now will no longer get this. It’s just fucking wrong, though we will ensure she can pay her bills and stay warm. What a way to treat our elderly, those voting and supporting this need to hang their heads in shame.

Moonay, this is not a storm they can ride out as alluded to above. This will forever stain this party during the next five years and beyond.

Let’s see who voted with their conscience. Will Nandy be one?

A dark day for this country.

Shipman 0 - 1 Two tier Kier

Little more to add to my previous post on it to be honest. It's not summat I'd try and defend as such ... just maybe try and understand, and put in a wider context ... which I presume is what Labour MPs will have done.

Who's to say that with different fiscal and economic circumstances, it won't be reinstated in the future.

If I’m not mistaken wasn’t it a previous Labour government that introduced it? A good idea is a good idea wherever it comes from.

It doesn’t affect me and unfortunately never will but it has really made my blood boil as it genuinely will affect some pensioners. If we can’t give something back to those so late in life then what sort of country have we become? It was a choice to remove it, no matter how it’s spun.

As I say, no defence. I understand why they've done it, and I'd like to think there were alternative options to finding funds to fill the black hole left to them ... but I can't see they've done this lightly, given the awful backlash they knew they'd receive.

However, like I said, if you're going to make yourselves MASSIVELY unpopular, then better do it in the first 6 months of being in power, giving yourself time to recover (if that's possible).

Absolutely disgraceful thing to do to the people most of them worked hard most of the life’s More to come in October. And we will still give some more to Ukraine. More To India. And the thousands coming over in boats. Doesn’t matter who is in charge. All piss in the same pot. And to top,it all these clowns. Letting criminals out early. Then they can lock some granny up posting on face book.

To be fair re Ukraine WBL if we don’t support them now the global consequences in a few years maybe far worse. It’s a bill we have to pay unfortunately. As for the rest, it’s a political choice. Targeting pensioners though, given the cost of energy, is just beyond the pale.

This country is not a big world player any more and it’s about time it realised it. According to the government we are skint. Talking not supplying weapons. Will end it We are as bad as the yanks. Fuelling war. It will end with a land giveaway a lot of young men from both sides lost for nothing.

Lost for words. Honestly.
