We dont know the full facts yet but I despair at the whole lead up to and the outcome of the military posturing between those involved.

A tragic and avoidable loss of life, many from Canada. I am ashamed and sorry to be a part of the human species.
 
A certainty it was downed deliberately.

It's a fucking disgrace how these countries keep getting away with cold blooded murder.

Putin did the same not long ago. Just brushed under the carpet.

Mistaken for a US war plane. What a crock of shit.
 
POWER POLITCS RELIGION GREED SELFISHNESS........ all contribute negatively to the human condition...hence nothing will change regarding wastes of lives in the pursuit of those ideals and aims. The most common thread for making up the human species is our inherent KILLER instinct which can surface at any time with anyone of us depending on circumstances we face. History repeats itself regarding atrocities in the name of the above elements We are a disgrace as a species inhabiting a wonderful planet which we will abuse and ruin until all is lost.
 
USAF may be able to help here. The trajectory of the missile or suspected missile was ground to air and very low as in anti aircraft fire. The missiles fired from Iran into Iraq USA bases would have been ballistic trajectory....a high arc and drop free fall.

The missile hit is absolutely correct, the telemetry from the UK's SIGINT EWS and the US's coming out of Cyprus has confirmed the missile flare. The Iranians, of course, will lie through their teeth and keep denying it forever, just the Russians did and will block, downright Lie and prevaricate on co-operation.

In Iran, local media are still claiming they killed 80 American personnel.
 
I apologise to the Iranians after lying through their teeth, even they couldn't cover up the intelligence out there on this one and realised that after every European government has seen it too, they had nowhere to hide.
 
A mistake !! The plane had only just taken off and would have been climbing away from the airport. How can that be confused with a military aircraft ? What kind of personnel have the Iranians got making decisions to fire missiles ? They are blaming the Americans for escalating the situation and causing the mistake of course.

The Russian Sam system the M1 is supposed to recognise cvilian plane transponders, but there is a real body of thought that the fatal flaw with them being used in civil airspace is that they're easily brought into a fault condition and ignores the transponder system, and once it does there is no way to destruct it remotely as it's an old system.

The Iranians have acknowledged that they have to upgrade these weapons systems to stop this happening again - but it's too late now, the Russians have had them over...
 
Classic Russian technical prowess as in Chernobyl. Iran makes most of it's own military hardware but does cooperate with Russia on drone technology in return for such a system that downed the plane.
Should Russia be allowed to supply Iran with weapons ?

I'm relieved they do, because otherwise, they'd be buying nothing but Chinese ones, that are a class above the Russian systems.

"Override" is a very misunderstood term in this instance; from threat alert, target acquisition/identification (or lack of) through operator launch to target was less than 10 seconds - once launched, it cannot be stopped; there is no missile self-destruct mechanism an operator an effect with these Russian systems, even if the operator realises he's launched in error; this makes them far cheaper to produce, but clearly less reliable/controllable.

The fault lies not with the mobile unit that was deployed, but the guards unit deployment plan; once they knew that they had launched against targets, expecting a response or not, the military should have enforced a no-fly zone in or out of the airport, not to do was an act of utter stupidity by the Iranian defence forces.
 
I thought it weird that air traffic control had no way of relaying info to the military on traffic in the area. Being so close to an airport in a volatile region.

There must be the technology these days to prevent such errors .
