Doug Ellis me myself and I

pvb1968

Vital 1st Team Regular
I would urge anyone who doesn't know what happened to Tony Barton before he was sacked and then after he sadly passed away to go on heroes and villans and read the current posting about him. I have many reasons to dislike Mr Ellis but for his treatment of Tony Barton and his wife after his death left me cold when reading about what happened. Utterly shameful. His name should be removed from that stand a.s.a.p. fuckin weasel of a human being.

A long-time ago I heard from a very good source that at the time of the building of the WITTON LANE stand there was a board meeting discussing the completion of the stand etc.

Ellis's birthday was forthcoming and apparently, he stood up at the meeting of board members and said: I am going to leave the room for 10 minutes and when I come back you will have a birthday surprise for me as well as an acknowledgment of my time with Aston Villa FC and I expect the new stand will be named after me.

In public, I will act all humble, grateful and surprised. - I reckon In his own calculating mind, he see's this stand name and the building of the Trinity Road stand as a legacy for "Mr. Aston Villa" to be remembered by such is the size of his ego.

There is plenty more I could tell you about him but I certainly won't say in public and I never will. I have actually met him a couple of times and I have never met a more self-centered person in all my life. Everything was Me, me and yet more me.

Personally, I would love to see it changed to the Ron Saunders Stand particularly while he is still alive to see it.

I'm kinda done with the Doug argument, he's gone but obviously heading up the protests my feelings were pretty known.

He did us untold damage holding us back for his own ends. Graham Taylor put it far better. He ran it for and behalf of Doug Ellis, no one else.

Yes, I agree with you Fear but I just wanted to get that off my chest as I have never said it before on here!

Oh no, I wasn't having a go at your or pvb, just for me I get told I'm a hater any time I say anything lol

I'm not, I wished him a long and happy retirement, I just wanted him to retire!

Yes I could go with the 'Ron Saunders Stand' as a tribute to perhaps our greatest manager, or even the 'Rotterdam Stand', just as a gentle reminder to the old fool that he was nowhere to be seen in our finest hour :3:

Definitely worth reading about. I work with blokes who worked for him and his son. Mr Ellis has always been a loyal husband , caring father and most influential chairman we ever had. :4: :13: :14:

Or we could call it the "We won the league and European cup when you weren't chairman " stand.

Careful thought and diligence needs to be given before naming parts of the ground after former Chairmen, Managers and especially player as Manchester City found out to their cost.

They were due to name three stands after their fantastic midfield trio of the 70's
Francis Lee, Colin Bell and Mike Summerbee, after having all the fabrication made at a cost of thousands of pounds the whole Idea was scrapped after the club realised that they would spend 45 minutes of every game attacking the Bell End.

Just sayin....

Still and all, that handshake to Abramovich wiped away a lot of his sins for me.
But he still didn't deserve to have a stand named after him.
