...But Walsall edged us out of the play off spots last night.
It's all getting a bit tight but Harrogate shipping 15 goals in the last 2 weeks has been helpful.
Wrexham scrambled a draw at Forest Green and Notts County slipped up at home to Sutton to once again show that you can't take things lightly against the lower sides.

Notts County are in freefall. Started the season with 30pts from their first 15 games, but since the end of October they've taken just 17pts from the last 19 games. Sutton completed the double over them last night, 9-4 on aggregate. Must wish they could play them every week.
 
Suddenly our points dropped v Walsall and Newport don't seem so bad. Conversely our win at Notts County now doesn't seem quite so impressive.

On current form we really should be looking to get a decent points haul through March with Good Friday game v Crewe being a real '6 pointer'.
 
At the other end of the table, I wouldn't want to be a Grimsby fan. Their home results this calendar year are:
1-6 v Walsall
5-5 v Notts Co
1-2 v Tranmere
1-3 v Stockport
1-5 v Doncaster

21 conceded in 5 home games and FGR on a good run would be a worry. Two decent draws at Accrington and Morecambe for their away days, though.

Our "performance" at Grimsby was unbelievably bad and that was it with Harris for me. We were lucky to get nil that day. Shows how things can change a lot in a few months.
 
Grimsby are representative of just how mad this league is, getting tonked for 5 and 6 by Donny and Walsall, a good 0-0 vs Accrington, 5-5 at Notts County and a good 3-0 win at Salford.

Walsall right up there in the form table.

Recall us being awful and well beaten by a poor Grimsby team in front of a good away following who deserved better.

It’s a very inconsistent division and, even with our problems up front, I think we can walk the playoffs. If we play to the potential, 11 v 11 / squad v squad, we are better than most of the teams we have to face. The classic “take each game as it comes” couldn’t be truer. Every game is a battle and if we have to rely on defence and nicking one, then so be it. It really is about results now.

However, if we can click up top, I think we could have a free hit at the top 3 or at least too 5 and a safe playoffs place. There will be lots of twists to come - the great runs of the likes of Walsall, Crewe and Newport will end at some stage and others - Notts County and co - will come again. I genuinely don’t think we’ve had a good run of results and performances which pretty much everyone else has. If we can have that in March, then we have that free hit in April with the like of Crewe, Mansfield and Barrow (twice) to play and catch!

We play Barrow next Tuesday (as opposed to twice in April). Now that one IS a 6 pointer!

Decent results in these next 2 away games could see us very much in contention. 2 poor results and we’ll have a lot to do. Maybe too much.

I kind of meant we have a free hit in April and those rival teams still to play, but as you say, two big games and an opportunity for the first time in a long time to get ahead of the pack.
