Well done, quite enjoyed that, all our own players looked good and Smith as well, ended up with 10 players including three kids and held out without too many dramas, bit of s shit we cannot watch the next one, cheers Barnsley.
 
A bit of good news on what is a gloomy day so far. Sounds like Coubis is the unit we hope he’ll be and I like the sound of Smith. Seems to have done well in both games. Definitely worth a punt.

Hopefully we’ll further the confidence tonight

It's a joke how crap Helm now is. Used to be great but barely gets anyone's name right, must be so infuriating for Chris Gaming on co-comms. If you were just listening to that game you'd have little idea what was happening, marginally better when watching it.
 
FT. Nothing to get excited about, as you’d expect from too many trialists. Pretty uneventful half. Coubis & Honohan did well, Thorn faded a bit but the standout for me was Matt Smith. Really hope the club does a deal for him as he could fit well alongside Ivan if Connor isn’t available for any reason. Takes up good positions, reads the game well, good close control and can pick a pass - a lot to like. Nice to see Pardington get the last 10 minutes and he made a couple of decent saves. A couple of the youngsters got on as well, though Fyfield (?) almost blew it when he lost possession, tried to recover it and gave away a FK outside the area. The joys of being an inexperienced youth, bless him.
Onward to Barnsley and hopefully something like a full strength side.Looking forward to the post-match report. Oh yes, we won 1-0 👏

Agree with what many others have said - Smith looks decent. If there is capacity in squad then would like to see him involved.
 
Best player for us Smith.
Coubis looks the part. Big strong lad but also looks comfortable on the ball and has a long throw but you would probably want on the end of them rather than taking them.
Honahan got some more minutes. Looks OK but from when I watched him has got a lot more to come.
Gouchi in goal looked particularly competent but if you measure everyone else up against todays opposition who were very average compared to the sort of opposition we're going to come up against in the Championship then the others would not be up to it in my opinion.

He has some good stories and does research the players however quite a few mistaken identities and is completely inept at describing the play, should rest on his laurels and enjoy retirement.
 
Bizarrely, the trialists, new signings, squad players and youth played more football against a strong first 11 league one side more than the first team squad did against a bang average Grimsby side . Friendlies eh ?

Wouldn't mind so much if he actually did a proper audio commentary. I'm sure he'd be a competent as anybody (naming no names). But - as I may have mentioned before - expecting people who can't see what's going on to make do with a commentary for video is not good enough.

Yeah glad I'll be attending games and not having to and listen to that whilst trying to watch the tv pictures.

So monatonely boring and alot of it not related to the pictures on the tv either and he gets alot wrong.

Needs some new younger fresh blood to liven the whole thing up.
 
Just got back - I enjoyed it for what it was, a nice afternoon in the sun enjoying some footie.

As others have said, Smith has some class about him - wouldn't mind seeing him at the Bank.

Clark looked good first half but knackered second half. Great ball by Johnson for the goal and Thorn looked decent I thought.

Really intrigued by Honohon, loved his nonchalant flick right at the start of the second half.

Coubis looks the part, think he'll fit right in with how we want to play.

Like the look of Gauci too, decent distribution and made some good saves.

And we didn't lose 10-0!

Will be interesting what team we put out at Barnsley. Somebody should actually ask Cohen and Shaw how far we're behind in terms of numbers. Would be interesting to hear what they say.

The frustrating thing is that many have complained to the club and to Luke (marcomms) on here, but nothing has seemingly been done.

And no doubt they will then wonder why the Imps+ subscriptions end up being lower this season than last.
