Manchester Dogs' Home fire: 43 dogs confirmed dead and youth arrested

At least 43 dogs are confirmed to have died after a suspected arson attack at Manchester Dogs Home.

A male youth has now been arrested on suspicion of deliberately sparking the fire at the animal charity’s rehoming centre in Harpurhey tonight.

Words fail me

That's disgraceful. I suspect only a massive prison sentence will suffice.

It'll be interesting to see what value we place upon a dogs life. 43 lives in fact.

What get's me though what sort of sick mind get's pleasure out of shit like this.

Is it wrong to say give him to the rest of the dog's?

Smeared in chum, jam, and in the case of human rights, make him wear some giblets so he doesn't quite know - until it happens - when they have his?

I won't pass judgement at this stage, but in general, I get why youngsters can't be named for legal reasons when they fuck up because we all did.

But there are some things that aren't a fuck up....this is possibly one of them. Same as that twat at Chase School the other day.

Name, shame, and stop this prick from procreating at least IF deliberate and not genuionely pissing around and it went far wronger than he thought.

However, if the response is true from locals in terms of quickly housing what are potentially troubled dogs anyway - once the dogs have finished with him, give him to those that offered.

Silver lining and all that.

Telling you, the quicker we nuke ourselves probably the better.

This public service message comes to you from somebody who has just given their dog a massive hug. (the dog is confused and wanted food).

Absolutely disgusting. Being 14 is no excuse - more than old enough to know what he's doing, but unfortunately his record will probably be "wiped" when he turns 18.

This is a despicable act of ....... well, words fail me!

Arson is one thing, killing innocent poor dogs is another. I know what should happen to him, but it won't of course. Probably get 6 months youth custody and banned from having a pet for 12 months!..........

This is, agreed, disgusting but as Deano has pointed out on another thread, the reaction in general to this is greater than it would have been if it had been 43 people killed. IMO that's just as messed up as starting the fire and killing the dogs in the first place.

it is horrible. Not denying that. Kid needs a fucking good slap.

But can honestly say more of my facebook friends felt 'sick' at this than when the plane got downed in Ukraine. Just find it odd.

Absolutely sickening. My donation was sent before I went to bed. It is sad that some people always try to make it a competition between caring about animals or humans. I care about both as they are not mutually exclusive. Anybody found guilty of a criminal offence for this should be punished to the full extent of the law, as should be anyone who tries to mete out any form of vigilante "justice".

I find you odd.

As an animal lover this makes me sad (or odd in deano's book)

Ive donated and if anyone else (who is also odd) wants to then here's the link -:

Loads of odd people have donated.

Seriously though - what the fuck is wrong with people!

I do find it odd that people care more about a canine life than a human life, but that's just my opinion.

I'm not saying that you can't get upset about both, I think this is horrible and tragic, but is it as devastating as 280 people getting blown out of the sky? In my opinion not in a million years.

Dogs are just animals. We eat animals. Some nations eat dog. I'd eat dog if it was on offer, yet I'd also think it was horrible if someone set a field of sheep or cows on fire.

It's not a competition so there's no need to get all high and mighty and patronising. It's just an observation that people express more anger and upset when it's animals than when it's humans. Imo that just screwed up.

I feel that 9/11 was a sad event but I didn't mourn them as I didn't know them. Doesn't mean I didn't care about it just I'm conditioned not to worry about it. With this fire I think it's awful but usually I agree a human life can't be compared to that of a human. But I would mourn my dogs more than someone I didn't know but less than if it was a family member

Oh bugger off with your common sense. Lol

it must be just your facebook friends then mate because on mine people are always banging on about 9/11 , plane crashes etc.... swings and roundabouts I guess.

But yeah, if theres a disaster with humans and a disaster involving animals I would feel sadder for the animals. It's strange I know - but that's just me lol
