Do you still doubt the Tories?

"The fact that self-employment accounted for 183,000 of the 283,000 of the increase in total employment over the latest quarter has raised eyebrows.

The majority of these were full-time, but questions can be asked about how many of this number were working for themselves by necessity after losing a job elsewhere.

A rise in self-employment could also point to a more entrepreneurial spirit, which will reap dividends in later years."

I like it when politicians take the credit for people going to work and people starting up business but never take the blame for unemployment. I mean IDS never stops rightly telling people that it is their responsibility to find work and the state should not be supporting them.

You would never think that it's people who are going to work everyday or making their businesses profitable that has caused the recovery.

The party in power should take the credit BI. Most of Europe is still struggling, yet here in the UK we see more jobs being created, house prices on the way up again, immigration getting under control, schooling improving and amongst the best performing in world based on a recent world wide survey, policing/NHS all working ok with no hospitals with filthy diseases on the wards any more, benefits getting sorted, etc etc...

Agreed Green Tea. The current government are doing a good job of creating the background for the entrepreneurial spirit to flourish once again.

I couldn't disagree more, the gov have not made it easy to get a job, the gov have not made it easy to keep a job, the gov have not made it easy to start up a new business, the gov are however really good at massaging figures and claiming kudos.

Like I said massaging figures, whose recent world wide survey? I would argue against all of the points you have listed, just who is it getting better for? Which class is profiting exactly? Benefits getting sorted! Don't make me laugh.

Do I still doubt the Tories? I never stopped doubting them, to be honest, the colour tie they wear means nothing, I doubt them all, I am capable of independent thought.

The state is a mostly a middle man and a parasite on society. It was people who got themselves motivated and went out and found work and kept it. Companies who created those jobs, individuals who started business.

The govt does nothing but hinder them with taxes and red tape. Then when the bloke gets his wages the state has its hand in his pockets every where he goes.

God bless big govt. Where would we be without it? Better off and more free. :73:

yes, they're doing a great job of selling Britain by the pound. Lets penalise those who need financial support the most by cutting benefits for those who are disabled and unable to actively seek work. Let's make out that single parent families are somehow the worst environment to bring up children, let's hike up the age of retirement so younger people cannot get on the job ladder. Let's force those who are desperately trying to make a living on a meagre wage worse off by making them choose between heating their living room or eating a meal. More and more food banks are springing up in densely populated areas because people are finding it harder to make their money stretch to pay all the household bills. Energy bills on the rise and the government do nothing to step in and say no. Food prices on the increase. And whilst all this is happening we can give tax breaks to the wealthy bankers who might have to go without their £1m bonus and all those poor majority shareholders of the energy companies and all the other major corporations. Same old Tory policy - look after their super rich buddies and let the mass majority of the population live like the feral underclass, under achieving scum they portray us to be. I hope to God they don't get back in power.

It seems a strange dichotomy that the way to make rich people work harder is to cut their taxes or allow them to exploit arcane tax rules to their advantage, while to make poor people work harder the given wisdom is that you reduce their benefits.

Zero hour contracts and 12-15 hour weekly contracts are used to make figures look better.

All those poor bastards on Zero hours contracts are basically self employed , they don't sign on but some weeks they don't have any work.
That twat who runs Newcastle "employs" 100's like that , typical Tory way of exploiting ordinary people , whilst pretending to be helping them

bunch of wankers

Oh, just fuck off. It's a shambles. Those Self Employed are only there because they would lose their jobs otherwise. They are now earning around 40% less than the employed equivalent.

Lies, damned lies and statistics.

GT I'm never going to take you seriously again you are definitely on the wind up

My step daughter has just taken a job in youth work £7 an hour self employed basis . That's including VAT! That's about minimum wage but only when they want you, not even 40 hours.

Martin most jobs in the jobcentre these days are 16 hours now my mate was offered a security job 4 hours a week it's a fucking disgrace what these bastards are getting away with.

They're trying every trick in the book, and the feeble minded are falling for it.

The only reason we are doing better is through the UK public, working hard and trying to put things right. The Tories have had no visible effect at all.

I do love it when the FACTS start getting in the way of the lefty argument!

After 4 years of government, some unpopular decisions have been made, but the progress is also there. Always bad points, always, with any government, but to say they haven't improved the economy in general is, well no point arguing with those people, as I am sure I will get examples of this and that thrown in my face now.

The main point is, could Labour have turned around the country with another 4-5 year term? No! So it was left up to the 'unrealistic' Tories to make some 'unpopular' decisions and get the finances straight.

It doesn't matter what I think, we all get a vote, but if people really want to plunge our country back into a financial mess, by all means vote Labour!

Unpopular decisions? What unpopular decisions? They've done everything to try and buy the next election.

They've given young people money towards mortgages, creating a massive housing bubble. They've offered pensioners their pension funds as cash, creating along term pension crisis. They've tried to take benefits of millions that need them, and yet increase welfare spending by over £1bn.

The actual truth is that real earnings have fallen continuously for four years, the longest decline in living standards since the 1870s. Osbourne is handing Labour the next election on a plate if he carries on like this, and Labour have the sense to capitalise on it.
