A woman tracked down her stolen iPad only to be told by police to arrest the suspect herself – because they didn’t have time.

Sara Gration, 37, tracked the stolen iPad Air via an app, which even gave the name of the street.

But when she called 101 and told police the information an officer told the mum-of-two officers were busy and suggested she should go to the street herself and to ‘knock on his door’.
Ms Gration, of Derby, said: ‘I couldn’t believe it, I was asked to turn detective myself and was sent to a house where I could have been put in danger.

‘I was basically being asked to be a police officer and arrest the man by myself. What on earth am I paying my taxes for if I have to do the police’s work for them?

No excuses for that, bloody disgusting, refuse to do their job and tell a female to put herself in danger by confronting criminals herself :21:

That's utterly disgraceful.

Surely that's in some way violating the law?? Is it legal to be vigilante now? Can I go put my Batman outfit on apprehend criminals?

Few years back we had our garage broken into had the usual stuff taken bikes, lawn mower, power tools etc. Anyway phoned police for crime number and informed the insurance company. Anyway about a week later the police came round and advised me to look in second hand shops and carboot sales and see if any of the stolen goods turned up. I replied "no I have insurance!" He got shirty and said that's why the policies always go up by lazy people claim for this and that. I told him to leave.

I bet if she got herself a taser and went round and gave him 1000 volts or whatever the police would soon be on her case.

Seems like sometimes they forget who the victim is.

Good grief. That's shocking Juan.

Also shocking response to you skeggy. Just how lucky would you have to be to chance on your own possessions being sold? Needle in a doo dah that. The blame lies with the thieves not the victims.

Are we allowed to criticise the police anyway ?

:56:

Certainly not!

They'll be monitoring this thread and you're all going to get arrested. When they've finished their doughnuts.

Sorry a £469 gold plated fucking ipad - left in the car?

No wonder she dialled 101, they aren't the police...they might have questioned why she owned such an obnoxious piece of technology in the first place.

Had she dialled 999 and accepted the question, maybe she wouldn't have felt the need to run to the bloody Metro...I can only presume she didn't have the Daily Mail's number or she was intelligent and didn't want her tablet to be accused of belonging to Isis and carrying aids.

Devil's off - one day this country might realise employing arseholes on 'standard non emergency numbers' doesn't save money because they don't know what the fuck they are doing.

College students half drunk trying to read of a script do not make for useful emergency service reactions.

It's only a tiny fire, help me put it out so I don't have to get the fire brigade.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

My daughter has drunk bleach!
Give her milk.

I've trapped my cock in a door.
Well open the door then.

Good points Mike. Which made me think WTF hadn't she got security on it so the person couldn't get in it so it was rendered useless

He was playing devil's advocate, what the item was, if she could have disabled it or not, how much it was worth is not the story, the story is that she was told to knock the doors herself, she was advised to confront a criminal

Lucky she didn't become another statistic

No I agree Juan, I was taking the piss BUT they are valid points and it stands to show why put so much money into what is basically a script.

My comments are valid, as are Kef's and JF's thoughts and she cocked up.

The issue is, as you say, 'knock on doors'. Who gave that advice? A bloke built like a brick shit house who could handle himself?

It's mental and I agree, she's lucky she can make the money back by telling her story to the media - but that was never a copper on the end of the line, just like it's not a trained medical professional etc.

How far do we cheapen and whilst I agree non emergency numbers are useful given the idiots who complain (transcripts are available on google) when frankly they should be slamming their own stupid heads in a door - why doesn't the cheap script occasionally point out it's a real issue.
