Director of Football

Was told this morning that we're getting a Director of Football in, it got posted on another forum somewhere they said. Anyone heard anything?

They said Sammy Lee on Planet Swans. Ex-Liverpool and England player, formerly on Sam Allardyce’s coaching staff at Everton.

Still no news on this. All gone quiet, I'd hoped we'd have got somebody in now to run things. Don't suppose our owners even know where to start.

They want to make the right appointment and are taking their time to get the right person in or so the reports say. Was hoping of some sort of update by now though.

They are still looking, who “they” are nobody knows. Who has got any experience football wise in knowing who to choose for the role, certainly not the hedge funders.

Stuart James of the Guardian, well respected reporter :
“Trevor Birch is expected to become the new Swansea City chairman, replacing Huw Jenkins.
Birch, former chief executive at Chelsea and Leeds, and an ex-player, is a chartered accountant & global head of Duff & Phelps sports industry practice. He puts out financial fires. Understand his job will be a “restructuring” one at Swansea. Clearly another sizeable financial hole (believed to be about £30m) to fill in the summer. With his expertise across finance/football, Birch has been identified as the man to oversee that task and more.
Birch has previously worked for, and advised, a number of football clubs with financial “problems”, including Portsmouth, Bolton & Aston Villa (he is an insolvency specialist among other things). Swansea, however, is expected to be a permanent and long-term role.
In the past Birch has helped clubs find fresh investment with a view to changing ownership. But I don't believe that will be the case at Swansea. Jenkins' shoes needed to be filled, he'll step into them, take control of the day-to-day running & manage the financial, er, mess.”

I suppose there's different ways of looking at this appointment if true. He has a history of joining clubs struggling financially but hopefully this suggests, based on past history, that he could oversee yet another change of ownership. God I hope so but somehow I'm not convinced.

Club statement: “That search will be conducted in close coordination with the Trust.”
Question to Trust after Trevor Birch speculation: “......have they kept their word and got you involved?”
Answer: “Involved would be a bit stronger than I’d agree with. Informed would be closer.”

Where's this taken from Keith?

Who posted that answer? Was it the Trust chairman? So they were informed? What....just informed first before the fans? Hopeless and it remains a non existent relationship between them.
