More Brexity goodness:

"The new export levies, which he says will amount to £160,000 a year for Leon Paul, are first, a “Brexit charge”, as the couriers are calling it, an export fee of £4.50 for every parcel shipped to the EU to cover costs of extra administration and form filling that couriers must carry out.

Second, there is a “deferment account fee” of £5 per parcel that covers couriers’ costs of pre-paying import charges in the destination country; and third, a “disbursement charge” which is set at different levels in each EU country with a minimum of about €14 per parcel, or calculated as a percentage of the value of the goods, whichever is the higher, plus VAT in the destination country. This covers the costs of the tax authority in the recipient country inspecting and processing the parcels."

Ah the much vaunted "fishing industry" that was going to sail us into a new dawn of productivity and sovereignty...Rule Britannia indeed..

The Kirkella freezer trawler, based in Hull, catches cod and haddock in sub-Arctic waters, but Brexit has left it without a fishing agreement.

Its owners, UK Fisheries, said Kirkella supplied between 8-12% of all fish sold in UK fish and chip shops and warned of an increased reliance on imports from Norway or Iceland without a distant waters agreement.

Meanwhile, dialling ourselves into the time machine, back in October..

"Not to the ex fishing communities that potentially stand to gain over the coming years. What may be an insignificant part of a centile to the city of London can be a massive game changer to communities like Grimsby, Hull and beyond.

There's a reason why you can buy a terraced house in Hull for 40k that would cost you a million pounds in London.

Whether I like it or not I grew up near Grimsby and I worked in Hull for nearly 30 years* and the pain that my wife's family and the areas in general still feel over the EU is not to be dismissed lightly or mocked.

You really need to have lived and worked in those places to truly get a full sense of the absolute devastation visited upon them by the surrender of the fishing grounds and impact of the CFP.

Some people know the cost of everything and the value of nothing is an appropriate maxim in this case. I'm surprised that as somebody who is centre right politically, I can see this yet a lot of socialists are blind to it.

The socialists still burn a candle for the miners yet can't raise an ounce of sympathy for the fishing communities and glibly dismiss them as insignificant to the economy. Complete and total hypocrisy.

I would be delighted if our fishing industry recovered, my point was Boris has never given a flying f**k about Grimsby or Hull, and will sell them down the river as readily as he will sell the Irish down the river...

But still no sign of our resident Brexit fantasist HullBrexitPost.

Funny that, as he was a proper gobby fycker before.

I was thinking about Brexit the other day. I was considering how the freedom from the European yoke of oppression had given me the opportunity to do things that I had previously been unable to do whilst being a member of the EU. Nothing came to mind. .

In fact, you've had your EU citizenship stripped from you. Funny how the Brexiters don't talk about that.

I think potentially killing 50 children is a small price to pay for "sovereignty", don't you?

Still no sign of erstwhile Mr Gobby, HullBigotPost.

Hundreds if not thousands of people die every day, why are you getting worked up about just these 50? What about those with cancer or leukaemia?

Lisa Nandy made herself look a fool on Radio 5 this morning, whilst discussing Trump/Biden with Nicky Campbell.
She said Trump and America withdrawing from the WHO was a massive failure on the part of this UK government.
Campbell asked if this was a cheap shot on her part. Absolutely not, she replied.
So, could Labour have persuaded Trump to remain?
No, don't think so, pretty sure his mind was already made up.
WTF.
Sure, there are many things that Boris and his gang have royally frigged up. They've also wrongly sided with the lunatic multiple times. Let's be fair, this Trump action really can't be laid at their door.
I know this kind of shit-slinging is part and parcel of politics, as is not answering questions. Maybe such things as this is why they are so reluctant to answer them!

Clearly its C. I'm disappointed you didn't make the alternatives a little more competitive!

Another great article on Brexit from Fintan O’Toole if anyone is interested......

https://www.zeit.de/politik/ausland...19-european-union-nationalism/komplettansicht

Im personally fascinated by this English/Brexiteer obsession with having to be the ‘best’ or be ‘world-beating’. And to be seen to have won some kind of victory over the ‘other’. They may think it shows some kind of strength and confidence. In fact all it shows is insecurity.

It's actually quite weird, isn't it? Maybe they all have, metaphorically speaking in the case of women, small dicks?

Great article. Funny he mentions football hooligans in passing. I have thought of Brexit as a political manifestation of our football hooligans trashing Belgian market towns, motives borne from a weird combination of insecurity and exceptionalism.
