Democracy in the UK...

Brexit was essentially an accident caused by internal Tory Party politics. The Tories had a head-banging right-wing anti-EU element for decades that caused various leaders and PMs headaches.

Then UKIP appeared and started eating in to the Tory vote. Cameron - then PM - panicked and called the referendum to "settle the issue". He never in a million years expected to lose it.

So, internal Tory politics and electoral concerns essentially led to the Brexit catastrophe.

David Cameron, btw, is an idiot and represents everything that is wrong with UK politics. As PM he didn't know that the US joined WW2 only after Pearl Harbour in 1941. When asked what Magna Charta meant, he didn't know. He is rich, priviliged and was educated at Oxford.

These are the people that run our country.

There are a whole bunch who went to places like Eton, and handed an "education" simply for having paid multiple tens of thousands for it.
And then got handed Oxford places, again without deserving them in any way.
And then given a free ride to the top with no discernible ability. A system based purely on privilege and corruption.

The ERG home of our good friend Karlos McCartney now want to scrap the Northern Ireland protocol. Chief idiot Mark Francois, the ERG chairman, said:
We will no doubt be told that the EU will never renegotiate the protocol - just as we were repeatedly assured they would never reopen the withdrawal agreement, or indeed abandon the dreaded ‘backstop’, which the protocol eventually replaced when they subsequently did both.
Francois said the protocol had to go or “we will not let matters rest there”.

Despite this....

Truly laughable

More from Project Fear and incredibly worrying although the UK Govt and DUP has also met with these loyalist groups previously, the same DUP and UK Govt who attacked Corbyn for meeting Republicans. The writing is on the wall for NI, I'm sure Boris and co will be putting plans in place to blame Sinn Fein and Dublin for the breakaway of NI. Of course this nonsense like Brexit will be lapped up by the many.

When anyone wants to point to corruption and "banana republics" abroad, they should really first consider this kind of thing.
The contract with Freuds says: “A carefully curated group of senior reputation management specialists from across agency specialisms (eg corporate, crisis and issues) will be available to NHS test and trace to assist in reputational issues and provide counsel and assistance.”

"Senior Reputation Management Specialists".. Why not just call them "liars" and let everyone know exactly where they stand...

Great article here from a doctor on the front-line:

https://www.theguardian.com/books/2...i-do-a-doctors-dispatches-from-intensive-care
"For NHS staff, the speech felt a little like prime ministerial gaslighting. At this point in the pandemic, the Cheltenham races were still in full tilt, some 250,000 people jamming into the stands over four days, and schools were still open. Government discussions about abandoning community testing for herd immunity had just been leaked, to great consternation. And PPE guidance for frontline staff had just been mysteriously downgraded so that most of us now were (indeed, still are) advised to wear equipment that fell short of World Health Organisation and EU standards. Meanwhile, friends working in intensive care in London were describing unfolding horrors in their ICUs. “I don’t know how much longer I can take it without lockdown,” one of my colleagues murmured as we walked towards the hospital. “I mean, have they actually decided to just ignore what’s going on in Italy?”

Everyone with even the most basic medical training, and those who bothered to educate themselves knew this was coming, knew what the cost would be, knew what the pain for the NHS staff would be and yet our government stood by and did so little preparation that one hesitates to say what their motive might have been.

Remember this when a miracle has happened and things start to get to normal in a years time, remember this when Boris' and his government start to try and take credit for managing this crisis successfully. Remember this when people start taking our NHS for granted again, remember this when the minimum wage discussion comes up for delivery drivers, public transport workers and retail workers, remember this when our food prices skyrocket. They cannot manage anything except by last minute, panic driven, news cycle focused reactions designed to make tomorrow's headlines look vaguely better, they are not interested in making things better by hard work, attention to detail and effective forward planning, this is not in their culture or in their range of abilities.

See Bodger has been quoted as saying "The virus doesn't celebrate Easter" in recent days.

Pretty ballsy for someone who said, "Have yourself a merry little Christmas" in Parliament, as the bodies began to fill hospital morgues again, in the days before Christmas.

Yet they can bend the rules around contract transparency and the location of secret opticians in the north east. Shameful.
I'd say that woman is the worst of the lot, and across all parties. Some achievement, I hope her parents are proud of the monster they nurtured.

Where is the detail of the other £800k?
Looks like the tax payer is footing the bill for some very expensive, no doubt overpriced, new toys. Pretty sure the public interest has been well served by televised Covid briefings for the past year without a shiny new facility.
£2.6m wouldn't give much of a pay rise to nurses, it might help! I'd rather that's where it went, along with the money for HS2. Tighten your belts everyone, it will soon be pay negotiation time for MPs.

Or, indeed, break international and domestic law repeatedly - when it suits them. Corrupt, venal, incompetent.

But the people get the government they deserve and will keep electing them.
