"His attitude has been the hardest part to deal with as a fan. You want him to do well so badly, SO BADLY, English talent at £30m, if he was a starting regular and consistently good he'd have been one of the most astute BlueCo signings, but his red against Wolves and his absurdly horrific elbow on Djed Spence sums him up. He just wants to brawl, not play football.
Against Spurs, I was watching with a friend, and I said 'ah, Delap will contribute nothing and get a pointless yellow', and that's exactly what he did. The elbow should've been a red, no eyes on the ball at all, all on the man, and if he won the ball, he'd have been in a 1on1 with Kinsky. Instead he goes for a brute force elbow. Just so frustrating. Needs to go"
"He needs a loan season back to a Championship club; he’s not a Premier League striker"
"Ghastly. Not a prem level player at all"
"He is dog shit. He was shit at Ipswich, even worse at Chelsea. He has 0 technical ability and only scored some goals at Ipswich because he could have half a pitch of space to run into. He has no redeeming qualities"
"He's no pussycat. But being a brutish bully on the pitch is only helpful when you're also muscling yourself into some goals. All Delap has done so far in a Chelsea kit is play lightweight UFC. It's odd though coz off the pitch he seems to be a pretty intelligent guy. At least smart enough to compute cube roots of numbers on the fly.
That makes me believe this can be trained out of him. But he still needs to show her can score goals when he doesn't have 30 yards of free space to run into"
"6 goals in 47 appearances is a very poor return for a striker. He moves around the penalty box with all the sharp movement of a wardrobe being dragged across a thick carpet"
"He only has one weakness and that is he has no strengths"
"He'd definitely be a much better fit for a counter attacking team as most of his goals come from a fast transition"
Think a out how Ipswich played when he was there - he was playing direct, running into space behind defenders, etc...
Chelsea play possession based football, and he hasn't gotten any of that space in behind to run onto the ball. His player profile wasn't/isn't fit to play against teams that sit back. He's not bad, but he'll never be a top striker. Would probably do well in Germany where games are more open
Think he’s the worst striker we have ever had. He’s white lukaku without the goals
Strikes confidence into Defenders
From a neutral so take my opinion as less than a Chelsea fan but yeah he's been fucking awful.
First touch is horrendous, can't pass or dribble.
Has a decent shot but too inconsistent, snatches at alot of chances he should take more time with or slows down when he shoot shoot off the turn or first touch.
He's quite physically strong but he always looks so unfit, I've seen him come on for Chelsea at 75 mins and he looks knackered by 80 mins it's bizarre.
I do think the system hurts him but I think he's a bit of a one season wonder, played way above his level for Ipswich, moved to a big club and can't cut it and will slowly just drift into mediocrity.
