Defoe

griddo

Vital Football Legend
What a goal he scored today, but just one of many and such an underrated player technically, the guy should have had so much more game time at this club,he seemed to miss all the big games here be it through injury,or at the expense of inferior players/strikers?criminal in my book, maybe if he was played in those games we would have fared better than we have in recent yrs and wouldn't have some of the dross we now have here now, look how we played today and this season with shite like Chadli and co we could and easily have had a front 3 of...

Defoe,Kane and Lennon, and A another until we got better if need be

do you think Burnley would been able to take out their pipe and slippers and have had kept a clean sheet if that was the case?would they bollox and I'm sure you all agree..

Yes it was a fantastic strike on his weaker left foot, but on many occasions whilst here on his stronger right he seemed intent on wanting to hit the cover of the ball and forfeit accuracy as a result. The technique he showed today brought all the required elements together and in sync. Now where do we start teaching the doctrine of good technique to Paulinho!

Good goal, none the less.

Exactly what he was brought for - to save them from relegation.

As for gridds, nothing and no on will ever persuade him that JD never got the credit he thinks he deserved !! :17:

No one will convince me that defoe isn't/wasnt a good player, but, even though I did suggest we looked to bring him in as a short term option in January, it was only ever that. a short term option to allow us to move on Ade or soldado

Oh dear one GREAT goal and that's it .... Defoe had his day with us - he's moved on ....

Exactly this. :106:

yup. Would have rather had him in the squad than Ade or Soldado this season but that can be said for many players.

Love the guy, did great things for Spurs but always took a long time to recover his form after injury and he got injured too often. Wouldn't have minded seeing an all English front two of Kane and Defoe either but we need to look to the future, wasted too much time trying to fit square pegs in round holes in the last couple of seasons.

It was a great goal. I didn't want him to leave, I would have liked us to have got him in as I'd have preferred him as back up/an option alongside Kane to either Soldado or Ade. But we didn't, it is what it is. It's great to see him still just absolutely loving playing football, and the Sunderland fans giving him the reaction they did.

On the point of him not getting the credit he deserved, he never did and still doesn't from large sections of our fan base. It annoys me more when I see other players who don't give a crap, who get put up on pedestals for doing far less than he did for us. If he got the credit he deserved all along, he probably wouldn't be held up as quite the "cult hero" that he is. He'd still be appreciated but those of us who defend his corner wouldn't feel the need to do so quite as often as we do.

Perhaps it's 'cos he's black?

Not sure if that's a joke or not but Drogba plays for Chelsea and is a club legend. I'd hope our fanbase are less racist than Chelski. That said a blue eyed striker might have carried more favour with some.

Think Defoe would have got more credit if he'd have scored a winner in a cup final or something. Or if he'd left after the 09/10 season when he banged in 18 league goals but he became part of the furniture, managers were always looking to improve on him and bring in someone more consistent so the fanbase equally took him for granted.

Anyway - superb goal. Hope he bags a few more before the seasons out.
