Deano's Belt

Vital Football Legend
Our beloved friend Deano is having a little car trouble. Fortunately, he came to the right place. If there is one thing that Vital Villa is famous for it's the quality of its advice, especially when collected by polls where users can add their own options.

The skinny is; our mate Deano has a Renault Megane that's 9 years old and worth around £700. He needs his car, does our Deano. He drives 140 miles 3 times a week (I know but everyone knows how lazy he is).

He's worried that one of the belts for the motor needs replacing but it costs £500 to get it replaced.

If the belt goes while he's driving, he'll be stuck on the side of the road and he might not be wearing tights that day to he could use as an emergency belt.

If he spends £500 on a new belt it's possible that the car will fail the MOT in May and his £500 will go down the drain.

Deano is getting married in May (to a woman) so he hasn't got extra cash to spend on a decent car for the moment.

What do you think he should do?

Suggestions that he works 5 days a week so that he can afford a better car aren't appreciated.

Risk it mate!!! Assuming you have recovery cover, of course.

Fear says you can have his BMW for as long as you need it should it break down. :62:

Yeah, went really well last time he borrowed my car :3:

Think eating more junk food is sound nutritional advice, would have to check with Juan Mourep though

You could always walk to work and back. Be perfect training for your marathon.

I would risk it , with the proviso that you can't complain if you breakdown.

Update. I sorted out some breakdown cover this morning.

Not sure if they're any good as I've never heard of them but they were cheap.... £49 and I get £28 of that back as cashback.

I get homestart, roadside recovery and forward journey cover, so at least I won't be stuck on the side of the road with a massive tow truck bill now.

Can't claim within the first 2 days after starting the policy though so lets just hope it makes it home tonight. The engine is getting louder and louder by the day.

I am only assuming the cam belt is the issue due to it being so overdue. It could of course be something else causing the car to sound like it's going to go bang at any minute.

Fun and games ay.

On the plus side, I've been driving 20 years now and never had breakdown cover before so just think of all the money I've saved in that time. :-)

Added that option mate without reading yoru reply

Its the sensible thing to do

;o)
