Yep it quite normal in Latin America for the dead to be placed in some position or other

Hmmm, I think I prefer the old British and Irish tradition of putting the dead person in a box, burying or cremating them and then getting pissed in their honour

Believe it or not SJH the old British tradition in Victorian times was to have your photos taken with your recently departed family/friends. They used to do it a lot with kids. There's loads of photos online. But I agree with your sentiments.
 
Even though he is dead he should be warned about the risks of smoking at a young age.
 
"The Loved One" by Evelyn Waugh is a hilarious take on the "death" business in California. I recall a passage where people queue to go into an air-conditioned room where they can pass by the "loved one" who is propped up in a chair waving "farewell" to them.
