D*rby to be relegated?

From Telegraph Sport...

Derby County will be hit with a 12-point deduction on Wednesday after formally appointing administrators to try and save the crisis-hit club.

With administration now to be confirmed, Derby will be docked a dozen points and will drop to the bottom of the Championship table.

Derby’s short-term future will rest in the hands of Andrew Hosking from business advisory firm Quantuma, who have offices in London and Manchester.

Hosking is listed as an expert in financial restructuring and insolvency on the Quantuma website and his appointment was supported by Derby’s major creditor MSD, the investment group based in New York linked to American billionaire Michael Dell.

He will now sift through Derby’s finances and attempt to find a buyer, though hundreds of jobs at Pride Park remain at risk.

As revealed by Telegraph Sport, Derby have significant debts and owe a staggering £26 million to HM Revenue and Customs.

Phillip Cocu, the former Derby manager, and his backroom staff are also owed around £5m in compensation.

Any prospective buyer will have to take on those liabilities and accept funding a club which is threatened by relegation to League One.

There is also a further nine-point sanction hanging over Derby for breaching financial rules, due to their long-standing legal row with the EFL.

Derby’s administrators, or a new owner, must decide whether to accept that punishment or risk going before an independent disciplinary commission which could decide on even heavier sanctions.

In addition, Derby will also be docked another three points if they fail to pay their players and staff this month, with pay-roll approaching next week.

Wayne Rooney, the former England and Manchester United striker, is set to hold talks with the administrators on Wednesday.

Derby face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

Derby will be better off being hit by all points reductions in one season and starting afresh rather than contagion leaking in to other seasons.

If the 12 point deduction for admin is enough to relegate them this year, then the EFL should leave the other 9 until next season. Having said that, I'd hate to see them survive despite the deduction.

Think Bournemouth survived in lg2 with a 17 point deduction years ago, that's the season Howe came in as manager and then they flew up to the Premier league. We really need to finish above the sheep or we'd never hear the end of it.

A few have been saying that the board and marinakis should go. Be careful for what you wish for. Not sure what the circumstances of his departure from Swansea were, but purely based on the fact that he got Swansea into the play offs twice RECENTLY, he deserves our support. Some will have wanted wilder or howe but we have cooperman. If he achieves anything close to what he did at Swansea, then he gives us the opportunity to discover that rarely experienced commodity-stability. Come Christmas I don't expect us to be in a relegation dogfight.

It would be nice to start seeing some better results, not so bothered initially about performances.... results are the most important.

Don't think is any point turning on our owner either.

Points bring confidence. Confidence brings style. New manger bounce, change of formation, good win, bit of confidence and as Lolley said in message, release of reigns. Should give a fast positive start, press Millwalls defence, get upper hand. Just need a couple of goals. In front of a roaring crowd. Raucous is the message of the day.

So basically, it's 9 points at the least, or they run the risk of this increasing. They have no option but to accept the 9 point deduction. Then in 10 days we will know if they made payroll. Basically, they are down this season with this.

If reading get 9 points, then a couple of wins for us (one can hope) and surely there are 2 worse teams than us for the remainder of the season?
Even with a 9 point deduction, Reading should stay up. Hull, Peterborough are worse than us

It’s good the EFL are actually clamping down on this & handing out deductions as it might actually make clubs think & not get themselves in such a mess.

one worry is the EFL don’t give the sheep a deduction because they’ve done this snide admin

Do mangers bounce? Rock maybe? Or as the Geordies say, "Ha'way in a manger"

It is a distinct possibility that DCFC may have to go. Full stop. No more. Of a very small squad 9 are out of contract at end of season. They owe close to £30m to tax man. They are losing money at £18m p.a. They owe other creditors a further £20m. They do not own a stadium nor academy pitch. It is a real dogs dinner, over at Derby. They do have some decent young players. Mel’s other businesses are mortgaged or he is unwilling to spend any more. He probably had nothing like the £600m fortune often quoted. Anyway he is now out of the picture.

They are a big enough club that someone will take them on but it needs to be someone who understands that’s it’s going to be a long and torturous road before they are anywhere near an even keel.

That's a crazy opinion - I love to hate Derby - but they have to be there for us to hate them. I have lots of friends who are Derby fans - that's part of it - all of the banter

Not many will be willing to buy a club £50+m in debt, in league1 with little scope for a business model that offers alternatives, no stadium and possibly few players of decent Calibre. Any recovery will be 5 years away. Many other clubs appear far more attractive.

Depends how much of that debt disappears as part of the administration process. They won’t be an attractive prospect for many buyers but I would be shocked if nobody took them on. Hopefully Mel will end up significantly poorer too.

That's some low hanging fruit you've got there. The more I read the more I like cooperman. I'm thinking mid table minimum. It's a long time since I felt that way.

The brand is a big one though.

Someone with more money than sense, a desire for adulation and a wish to look good in front of rich friends will buy it

Word down here is they’re fucked, they’re about to not be able to pay players which is another 3 points off. A perspective buyer had asked to see these elusive accounts that haven’t been filed & was either refused by the sheep or took one glance at them & either way very rudely/forcefully & very very quickly declared themselves out of any deal for good.
