I know the one you mean. That's way DOWN Maidstone Road. More than half way, even.

When I first started getting pocket money - 2/6 but I could go out and buy an Airfix kit with that!

Same as that, always an aircraft kit. Strange that I also remembered the price.
Also remember specifically the price and size of Mars bars and the price of a 45.

Think schools meals were 5 shillings a week in the fifties?

I still have one family member (in Chalfont Drive ) so do occasionally go down there. Think the shop is still going.

Kicking the shilling habit was hard to start with. So that's one shilling and two and half new pennies. People would say, forget the shillings. I used to worry about where stuff on the computer screen went when you scrolled too.
