Has anyone noticed that some supporters point out that Spurs do not have a winning mentality every time we draw or lose a game. They don't even balance this observation by saying Spurs have a winning mentality when we win games. They just seem to love negativity and will go to any lengths to find some. Why else would they continually criticise a whole season based on a poor result in one game.
As I write this article Spurs sit second on the table but still get the 'no-winning-mentality' criticism. Do those supporters have any idea how football works or what they are talking about. Do they run off to see a psychiatrist on a daily basis every time some little thing goes wrong in their lives? And if so, did the psych suggest that they must have been neglected to be advised that it's okay to fail ... as long as you try and do your best. Did the psych not add that you have to be inside a person’s head to understand why they did, or didn't, perform well ... not sit outside and make ignorant assumptions? Don't they understand how life works?
If Spurs have a no-winning-mentality whilst in second place then there are 18 other clubs who must be total basket cases! In fact football, worldwide, must be corrupt with mental illness because there has never been a team that has failed to drop points and yes, omg, even to teams below them. To be second in the table and criticised as 'lacking a winning mentality' makes the critic sound stupid at best, and even more stupid at worst.
Spurs draw or lose a game and the comments by some are, 'Spurs were not up for this'. Do they really think that our players give up on the game somewhere on the walk from the tunnel to the pitch? Did they take to the park expecting to lose, or not caring what the result would be? Did they have the attitude that 'we won't bother today'. Some supporters must actually believe this ... which, to me, seems unbelievable. Do those supporters who criticise Spurs in this way never have bad days.... the only reason being that that's what life threw at you that day. Do they think that Spurs should never drop points to a team in a lower position on the table, or should never make mistakes either individually or collectively? Do they not understand that there are two teams on the park and that every result is what it is for any amount of reasons? Why do the harshest critics appear to think Spurs should be perfect when their own attitude suggests Spurs should be hopeless?
Life is not perfect and, guess what, neither is football. There are no universal laws relating to how football should play out. Why then do these knee-jerk critics think that there are?
Think about this.... every game that has ever been played must field one or two teams who display a 'losing mentality' or who 'are not up to it' if these critics and 'knee-jerk' exponents are to be believed. If Spurs have a bad game then it makes sense to criticise whatever was perceived to have caused it. There's nothing wrong with that and we all do it. But why focus on one poor game and forget the many good ones. The ridiculous 'knee-jerk' comments relating to some kind of 'losing mentality' or 'lack of desire' say more about the critics than the target the criticism is aimed at. Unless, of course, these critics are used to perfection in all areas of their lives ... in which case they do not come from this planet.
Seems to me that you can't understand football if you don't understand how life works. But, hey, I'm just being critical. I just hope that all those critics who love negativity don't think I'm being too negative and displaying a knee-jerk reaction because I have a losing mentality. Because the truth is.... I'm just sounding like them.
