Creative Midfield Player

With the injury to Jack Grealish (although I don't think he is a creative midfield player) surely we now need such a player? I watched Hogan make some great runs on Saturday but there was no-one on the pitch at that stage to feed him. Whether it 's Hogan, Kodjia (or god help us Gabby) we desperately need this type of player.

We've needed a player capable of playing that role for years 794.
There are several players around who can play the role but, yet again we seem content not to buy one or, let someone who could play the role, play the role.
I agree that Grealish isn't that player.
I think Grealish is a luxury player, he hasn't improved as a player since he was playing on loan for Notts County in the 2nd division.
His decision making is still highly suspect and poor 99 times out of a 100.

I take your points but I don't think we need a specialist creative mid. What we need I'd a midfield line that looks up and can pass a ball. They should all be capable of doing that.

The thing is lewis, we need a midfielder who can read any run a forward is going to make and make a pass that gets there at the right time.
The midfield we keep playing only see a run once its started, by then the run is covered by a defender and so the pass never comes, instead the ball is played back ala Westwood style.
What we really need, is a midfielder who is on the same wavelength as our forwards, well the forwards we have who don't run in straight lines (ala Gabby) that is.

That youngster who played in the first game against Druisberg looked shit hot was it O'Hare or that Doyle-Hayes but he showed some great link up play with the forwards.

All the above is true, but I still reckon it's as much developing the midfield as a whole to think that way as it is buying a single player with that particular gift.

If our back line plays higher up the pitch as it looks as though it will, that'll enable the midfield to start looking forwards and picking out opportunities. All we need is to get them to do it.

Danny Murphy said the best partnership he ever had was with Bent at Charlton. He never had to look up, he knew where Bent would be and would be heading. And Murphy isn't often labelled creative midfielder.

Throw out some names ? theres not many around that are the standard some fans want that would drop to the championship ? We do have to be realistic, very quick to write off some of our current players, pogba was poor last season but this season im sure he will be one of the bets in the league, give the lads a chance this season

We bought landsbury and hourihane for that purpose and it hasnt worked so far, I dont see the point in going out and spending more money.

The squad we have at the moment is more than enough. Terry Whelan/jedinak kodjia is a good spine

dont just judge on pre season, hoping hourihane can find his feet this year as before he came to us he had the vision to spot a pass and could score goals, lansbury somewhat the same!

Just to add to the above, we have done the best business by a country mile compared to every other team in the championship, just need to give the team and manager a chance....

Very true McP I don't think we need a player that specialises in threading passes because lets face it most players can make those passes it's more about a settled squad with a good understanding of each others game.Hopefully this is where Terry's knowledge will come to the fore.

He looked a cracking prospect showed an urgency to get the ball out to the flanks and always seemed to know where Hogan was.

Cheers by the way Shamrock I was at the mini tournament thing in Germany and he was the one I was most impressed by.

Hayes looked good at Walsall , plenty of confidence and didn't look the type to be overawed.

If you are looking at other players though only one name stands out for me and that is the blond lad at Norwich (Is it Pritchard ?)

This window was all about addressing a lack of creativity in the midfield . Elmo looks decent , whelan can clearly ping balls about (to a degree) but we need a playmaker in the team very badly

Hate to bring up his name but seems we are missing someone like Delph that would dribble past a defender, then make a pass. Our current midfielders rarely successfully beat someone off the dribble. They; pass up, pass back, pass out wide, pass back to defender, pass goalie, start again.

Defenders are able to lay off of our Mid's and want to snag a pass or for us to turn it over.
