Crapple Apple

I was amazed to find, at 9am, people queuing at the Apple Shop in the bullring. The recent Panorama investigation that evidencing deplorable working conditions in Apple's Shanghai factory combined with the fact that tin procured from mines using child slaves 'made it' into their supply chain, was shocking.

Social Justice or brand over human value or is it all just a storm in a teacup?

Thoughts?

Would need the full list of all companies who do this really. I think we'd all be shocked what goes on if they scratch more than just the surface.

Not watched the programme yet but have it recorded.

Not sure, sadly, people really care Grizzly.

The worst part of it is, it isn't as if Apple are trying to force down prices to breaking point with their products like some of the cheapo clothes shops who have used the same sort of child labour before being caught. These are top end prices, they are abhorrent for squeezing the margins both ends.

And no, in that rather clumsy paragraph, I'm not saying if they offered the products cheaply it would justify the means!

Seen the conditions these workers am working in on the news and it is shocking such a massive company that could create clean safe working conditions resort to this disgusting methods to just get there product produced by treating people like this, they should be boycotted then they would soon stop it i mean it is not as if the world will stop with all the competition and rivalry Apple have now they could easily be boycotted,

I just can't understand why this is not more bigger news than what it is, just as glimpse here and there instead of people in uproar, i was livid when i saw them pics but over in the Eastern countries they seem to be able to treat people like this and get away with it cos the people am that poor they will accept this life for pennies, sad and inhumane and Apple ought to be sued and forced to compensate the kids slaves and workers compensation then they would think twice of doing it again and other big leading brands,,,,rant over this story on the news did get my back up tbh how sad.

Capitalist corruption, profits up, people down. And most people couldn't care less, as long as they get cheaper stuff it's all good.

Freeman so much said in so few words. Its nothing new but Nike have been getting away with it for years and years and still managed to sell it expensivly.

I think Apple could do more but I don't think it is as bad as it is being made out to be. Firstly it was a subcontractor, it's not like Apple were doing it themselves, and they did have rules on what the subcontractors can and cannot do they were just being ignored, it was the subcontractors fault although Apple should probably have regular visits to make sure everything is in order as they can clearly afford to do so. In terms of the workers, they decide to work there and in one case on panorama a kid lied about his age to get a job in the factory, but then couldn't cope because he was too young. If people are working long shifts for not much money in poor working conditions, is it the companies fault for offering the crap job, or the country's / governments fault that there are no better jobs for it's people in the first place, due to a lack of education, a poor economy and no labour laws?
