#COVID19

What is the long term with C19? Vaccinations every 6 months from now until we screw the planet up for them to be irrelevant? That's roughly 2.5m a week forever and even then it's possible we will continue to have outbreaks as the virus mutates.

My best guess is that it will become part of the flu jab cocktail. Hopefully we will see greater uptake of that option.

There is a lot of waffle about the number of deaths from flu each year as if this number is a gold standard target to aim for. Still, gotta die of something, I suppose, and flu/pneumonia isn't the worst.

Sure, you're outnumbered and that's a shame. I'd prefer the country took a step to the left (apart from those already teetering on the edges of zealotry) but that won't be happening anytime soon.

How many billionaire owners of newspapers vote Tory?

Murdoch can't vote here, I've never known Lord Rothermere say he's a Tory (but could be wrong), FT is Japanese owned, Trinity Mirror has no obvious owner. So that probably leaves us with one Barclay brother.

Undoubtedly folk are influenced by the media, but it's not a closed loop system - the media goes where it will make a profit and that's a reflection of the makeup of the UK, again sadly.

Might the BBC being pulled to the right? Yup. Might it have been historically Liberal leaning? Yup. Could you see the recent changes as both concering for it's independence and also a correction to reflect the people of the UK? Yup.

What I do know is the Tories fear it's impartiality, the BBC's desire to just present facts rather than editorialise. There is little space for popularit government to hide when a light is shone upon them.

But rather than support one of the few sources that still strives to offer facts and impartiality the left spews the same bile as the right. All the negativity and undermining does is add momentum to those who wish to see the BBC dismantled and replaced by a commercial organisation. I find it utterly bizarre that the left is so easily manipulated that you play the game on their terms so willingly.

Is the BBC perfect? God no. Is it a fuck sight better than any alternative anywhere in the world? God yes. But sure keep bitching away, the Tories thank you for your service.

The very nature of the news tends to be anti-government , whoever is in power. News tends to only highlight what is bad or what's going wrong. Regarding the biased papers, don't people just read what they want to ? Guess there's not many Labour voters who subscribe to the telegraph etc or Tory voters who buy left wing papers. Did the Guardian crossword for a bit, which got me reading some of it, but even for free it didn't seem worth reading.

Just google defund the bbc most of the absolute ***** on there make Mr Hitler look like a left wing pansy poet socialist

We’re going to lose the BBC as the Tories don’t want anyone to actually learn anything & you anti Semitic guardian Reading middle class ***** will clap along supporting it because they didn’t carry cat weasel saint Jeremy of Corbyn around on a fucking sedan chair.
We are losing the fucking BBC to the Tories!

Could well become an annual thing for people over a certain age. There are about 15 million under 18s as well. Assume they're not in the current vaccination plan?

Or we vaccinate our own thinking it's all fine, then it mutates in Brazil or India because they weren't vaccinated yet, our government is slow to react, new resistant varient comes here and we are back to almost sq 1

I don’t think anyone is thinking that far ahead, the current government plan seems to be boast about how much better than France we are.

My grandad was a Tory but he used to buy The Guardian and Telegraph on the grounds he wanted perspectives from both sides. Always thought that was healthy

I read The Week, which collates articles from a broad range and offers multiple perspectives on each issue. Works quite well

Guess there's not many people on here who read the Telegraph on here , but you do frequently get totally opposite articles in there. Why Boris is doing a great/crap job, why Brexit will be a great success/failure. Used to like the Independent at one time, but the online version is as biased as the Guardian and the i never seems up to much on the rare occasion when I've been tempted to buy a real newspaper.

By my calculations nearly 280k people were jabbed yesterday. At that rate circa 12 million people should have been vaccinated by 15th Feb.Another boost needed to reach the target by then, but hopefully a lot more will be achieved.

Interesting on Question Time last night that they said Scotland was going more slowly as they were concentrating on Care Homes. Shows that it's important to vaccinate the right people, rather than the easier people who could simply drive to a mass vacc centre.
