Coventry Away - cheap ticket prices?

For those of you that can go.

Just been reading on facebook (so it’s gospel). Apparently our away game there is promoted as their “community day” or similar and it’s £5 entry.

Cov fan reckons he checked with the club and that’s £5 for away fans too ?

If that’s true, worthwhile spreading that around, might get a nice big(ger) following.

£15 for the game is too much?
Nope, I'd pay that (and have done for this Saturday for example) for the match. But I swore a couple of seasons ago that I wouldn't pay that over inflated car park price again.

That ground is arguably the worst to get to and particularly from by bus, train or car in terms of time.

Dreadful plastic ground with plastic shopping centre. Spent an hour trying to escape by bus in the freezing cold there when we lost 4 1 ( several buses full) and the train link wasn't working. £10 to park?!!!

I went to uni there and liked Highfield Road which was state of the art modern at the time! Easy walk from train/bus station/centre of town.

Has anyone used the at-venue parking at the Ricoh ? I`m thinking of driving to this one, owing to all the grief around local public transport (and the strife of Northern Rail !). Would really appreciate any helpful hints, such as which is the best car park for away fans ? is the post-game car park exit efficient ? Is it a first-in first-out operation ? etc. I realise that it`s a tenner, but all in all it might be worth it ?

Thanks in anticipation.

There’s an hourly service between Coventry and Coventry Arena, although bear in mind it’s not going to be a particularly large train. Otherwise you can go for a quick beer in Dhillons brewery or the casino (free registration is probably needed) while the crowds empty out. We usually have enough people in the group to make it worthwhile to taxi it to and from Coventry.

Thanks Trev, as I recall the train that stops there is only a two carriage train and as you imply, it`s not that frequent. I`m thinking i`m still going to drive but don`t want to get caught in an Oxford or Northampton style one hour wait to exit the car park !

Apparently not, parking permit network radiates 2 km`s out from the ground. I`m all for walking, Lark, but Coventry`s ground doesn`t lend itself to pedestrians.
Ok, not been to the new ground there yet but tempted if it is £5 a ticket.

LancsGordoRoad - my daughter lives in Coventry so we always enjoy Coventry away games . Here goes a little secret arrive early at the ground park free in the casino car park enjoy a drink and food if you like or just sit and watch us lose our money !!!

Hi Octopus. I studied Law at the Lanch '76 -79. You? It was £1.50 when I went.

I actually ocasionally saw Cov rather than the Gills. Ferguson and Wallace doing great things. Played in the infamous chocolate strip at times.

Mind you, I chose Walsall away (1 0 win Westwood) over City beating Manure 4 3 circa 1978.

I have parked about 20 minutes away on a side street for free before now when visiting the Ricoh. By the time we got back to the car most of the traffic had cleared and that was when 25,000+ turned up for their return home game.

You can avoid paying the over inflated car parking tickets!

Thanks Thrapston, I read that there was a 2km "exclusion zone" for parking. Helps if you know the area, I suppose, i`ll study google maps. Probably, I think, on this occasion I may well bite the bullet, turn up earyish and pay my £10.20. Annoying though, Highfield Road was better !

90-94 doing economics. one that sticks in the mind was watching them hammer liverpool 5-1 just before heading home at xmas - then a week or so later watching us draw nil nil at home v huddersfield in the cup, where it was so foggy you couldn't see over the half way line.
