Corporate takeover

Dear friends across Britain,

In days we can take a huge step to stop officials handing Monsanto, Bayer and other greedy corporations the keys to our democracy.

The TTIP trade agreement would let Big Business challenge our laws in secret courts, and flood our country with bee-killing pesticides, gas guzzling cars and GM foods. It could also make NHS privatisation irreversible. But if the European Parliament votes the right way next Wednesday, we can stop this madness!

Hundreds of organisations in the UK and across the EU have come together to build the huge, united opposition this fight needs. Let's race to get their joint petition to 2.5 million, then deliver it via the media and a march outside the EU Parliament - add your name and share widely:

London and other EU capitals are already crawling with corporate lobbyists -- now they see this as a chance to consolidate their grip on decisions that affect us all, every day. TTIP could allow private firms to sue the government if decisions go against them. More trade between the EU and the US could be beneficial, but not at the expense of citizens' rights!

The European Commission is negotiating this plan for all of us, and 97% of citizens recently told an official consultation on TTIP they didn’t want private trade courts to decide on social and environmental standards. The Commission says it’s listening, but it hasn't committed to prevent companies challenging laws they don’t like, or demanding compensation if their “future anticipated profits” are affected by democratic decisions.

Members of the European Parliament have the power to reject any trade treaty, and they only have days to decide how to vote! Over 450 organisations have already built a massive 'European Citizens' Initiative' petition against the TTIP power grab, and if our community joins them now in huge numbers, we can get MEPs to put democracy before trade. Be interesting to see how the Conservative Gov vote then, afterall they are after our best interests in Europe and are going to re-negotiate :3:

It looks likely it will be rejected, in it's current form, anyway. Unless the ISDS clause is removed, or at least majorly overhauled, then it will not come into practice.
