Coronavirus

When it was announced on Thursday night that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea player Callum Hudson-Odoi had tested positive for coronavirus, it was inevitable that both the PL and the EFL would reverse their decision to go ahead with this weekend’s fixtures.
They held an emergency meeting Friday morning to discuss the latest development and decided to suspend all league fixtures for three weeks until Friday 3/4/20, at which time the situation will be reviewed.
The matches involved for the Swans will be 14/3 M’boro (a), 18/3 Luton (h)
and 21/3 Millwall (a). We are due to play on 4/4 Sheff Wed (h).
In three weeks time the Coronavirus outbreak in the UK will probably be a lot worse than it is now, so I can’t see any mass gatherings being allowed at that time or in the immediate future.
It’s a shame as we were in the ascendancy playing-wise, only bad luck with late goals conceded and dropped points stopping us getting into a play-off position.
It was all to play for and it’s anybody’s guess if we will still be able to maintain that momentum if and when fixtures do finally resume.

In her 2008 book ‘End Of Days’ the late self-confessed psychic Sylvia Browne predicted this:
“In around 2020 a severe pneumonia-like illness will spread throughout the globe, attacking the lungs and the bronchial tubes and resisting all known treatments. Almost more baffling than the illness itself will be the fact that it will suddenly vanish as quickly as it arrived, attack again ten years later, and then disappear completely”
Eerily prophetic words.

Swans Official update:
Following the dynamically developing situation around Coronavirus, Swansea City will endeavour to keep supporters updated on matters relating to the football club.

Following the Government’s updated statement on Monday evening, the club was already in a strong position to act on the advice and respond accordingly to protect the health and wellbeing of its employees, their families and our supporters.

The majority of staff have been working from home since Friday. This was extended to all staff on Monday with the exception of a minimum number to maintain essential club and stadium operations on an ad hoc and minimal basis.

The club’s training grounds at Fairwood and Landore have both been closed for this week and will be reviewed over the weekend.

An extension of the postponement of EFL fixtures from April 3 to the new date of April 30 has been announced.
The scheduled close of the season was June 1, but this has been extended indefinitely.
Eight of our remaining nine matches are affected:
14/3 M’boro (a)
18/3 Luton (h)
21/3 Millwall (a)
4/4 S.Wed (h)
10/4 B’ham (a)
13/4 Leeds (h)
18/4 N.Forest (a)
25/4 Bristol City (h)
With the last fixture probably having to be re-scheduled as well:
2/5 Reading (a)

How this affects our loan players and players out of contract is anybody’s guess.
EFL Chairman Rick Parry says that the primary objective in order to protect the competition integrity is to deliver a successful conclusion to the season, subject to the overriding priority around the health and well being of EFL staff, players, club employees and supporters

This is interesting from FIFA and applies to our players out of contract at the end of this season: “It is proposed that contracts be extended until such time that the season does actually end. This should be in line with the original intention of the parties when the contract was signed and should also preserve sporting integrity and stability.”
