Coronavirus

Yes, we've covered this before 57, privately funded, a lot struggle, they are only private because the Government wanted shot of the responsibility and private or not, as you will no doubt agree, they are still UK citizens in there who deserved to be looked after, not left to die in huge numbers.

The whole system needs a shake up really.

Care homes per se aren't badly funded when you look at some of the profits, but the profits generally come from cutting back to the bare basics, low staff pay etc and the money rises (as in any business).

And obviously some are far far better (and more fairly) run than others.

Maybe Herd isn't the way forward?

A Spanish study has cast doubt on the feasibility of herd immunity as a way of tackling the coronavirus pandemic. The study of more than 60,000 people estimates that around just 5% of the Spanish population has developed antibodies, the medical journal the Lancet reported.

Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro has tested positive for coronavirus.

He took the test, his fourth, on Monday after developing symptoms, including a high temperature.

Mr Bolsonaro has repeatedly played down the risks posed by the virus, calling it "a little flu" and saying that he would not be seriously affected by it.:lol::lol:

Wonder how many lives this idiot has cost with his stance?

Only 22% of people testing positive for coronavirus reported having symptoms on the day of their test, according to the Office for National Statistics.

This hammers home the importance of "asymptomatic transmission" - spread of the virus by people who aren't aware they're carrying it.

Apparently the first covid virus they have seen where those who are asymptomatic can spread the virus.

Can of worms of their own making sadly given the overall lack of organisation about home schooling and some kind of syllabus to follow.

Those teachers picking up a wage and doing nothing should have their holidays cancelled, those teachers going the extra mile should have their holidays as normal.

------

Head teachers in England say GCSEs and A-levels will have to be slimmed down for next year's exams, because of the teaching time lost in the lockdown. A grassroots group of more than 5,000 heads is warning it is "neither realistic nor workable" to catch up in full by next summer. They are calling for reduced content or to have some "open book" exams where students can use text books.

-------

Cheapen the GCSE/A Levels and these kids won't get a crack unless it's on a far reduced income/promotion prospects. Reduce the content and you are saying they aren't comparable to the year before or the year after. Let them use reference material and it's cheating.

How about we instead put the resources in to get them back up to speed, even if it means they delay the exams for the exact period they have been out of school?

We can spaff (copyright dickhead in No 10) £500m on satellites experts don't believe will work up the wall, £900K on BoJo's desire to have an aeroplane like Trumpy and even the existence of the ERG and other internal boys clubs at Parliament that we pay for.

Wouldn't this be a better spend of the money?

I appreciate that's basically Ofquals argument but of course head teachers and Unions go the lazy way.

I had assumed it was? I guess it depends on the definition of airborne, if someone sneezes and it spreads maybe that isn’t classed as airborne.
And me, if not, why cover mouth and nose?

For months, the WHO has insisted that Covid-19 is transmitted via droplets emitted when people cough or sneeze. Droplets that do not linger in the air, but fall onto surfaces - that's why handwashing has been identified as a key prevention measure.

But 239 scientists from 32 countries don't agree: they say there is also strong evidence to suggest the virus can also spread in the air: through much tinier particles that float around for hours after people talk, or breathe out.

While hairdressers around England have reopened, beauticians have had to stand back and watch, not yet allowed to see customers amid the coronavirus pandemic. Some workers think it unfair and feel frustrated. And to compound matters, there have also been concerns a multi billion-pound industry is being belittled by sexism.
