well then. didnt go to game to day but from what ive heard and read it was another masterclas of footy and broght me onto thinking that hes got to get maneger of the month award this time round. then i rember reading this from the oxfor thred.

"
I'm not sure what more people can ask for this a season - we came down in a mess and Cook has brought us back to life immediately. He didnt even spend a penny on transfer fees in the summer and there was no months of 'gelling' we hit the ground running from the first competative game.

We've been in the top 2 or 3 every week, had a stunning FA Cup run dumping out 3 Prem teams including destroying Citys quadrouple dreams, dealt rather well with massive fixture congestion and could be on to smash 100 points and eclipse Jewells record. When you look at the stats most of the tine we've simultaneously been the top scorers in league, best defence in whole country, best goal difference by miles, best home record, best away record, dished out a few drubbings including a record away win of 7-0, played a lot of good attacking football. Our work rate is phenomenal and we must be the fittest team in the league, the defensive organisation has been excellent and when we get into our rhythm going forward we have been devastating. "

grate words from kdz06 - again

so when you look at what weve been doing these past couple of games and add it to what kdz has observed (which i agree with) then for me it would be a total travisty if cook dont get maneger of the season for all hes done. ive tried thinking about other manegers acheivements over the season but cant think of owt truly startling.

so - if he dont get it then theres some sereous fiddling going on at fa towers.

as peeple are seying these deys. UTFT and long live cook

The bloke who wins the league usually gets it,so if we hold off Mowbrays mob he will get it.
Though I agree Cook has exceeded all expectations.

I liked his comments tonight. He said something like people may think he's a good manager but it's the players who are good.
He has done his job and he has done his job well. Thankyou Paul.

I think Cook has done amazing but when you consider we had a good squad and were one of favourites at start of year, then compare it to the Shrewsbury squad of nobodies expected by everyone to get relegated - i think Paul Hurst has worked a miracle and i can see why many would want to give it to him.

But at the end of the day our stats, fa cup run, league position and performances have been so impressive and if he seals the title and 100 points it would be a crime if Cook doesn't get it.

I think the only way Cooky won't get it would be if Salop pip t' Rovers to 2nd place.

To be fair, I think Hurst would deserve it too ............. but not for 3rd.

According to some, or one on here, he's yet to prove himself.

Great credit to him and his staff. Club was in a bit of a state when he came in but I think his infectious nature lifted the team immediately and they haven't looked back since.

I was a touch concerned prior to his arrival about his style and rigid tactics but I'm glad to say he's proven me wrong and I hope he's at our helm for a few more years yet.

But the most bizarre thing you worried about was that he wasn't a good fit ?

If Derby sack their next manager for failing at the final hurdle, I wonder if they would be on the blower.
Mr Whelan's hands look like he has been fielding a few phone calls recently ......

I think what is fuelling speculation is uncertainty around the ownership and as such the fact his position may not be seen as secure. I would hope internally, if not externally, there is some reassurance and clarity one way or the other. Same applies for our summer transfer business as our players/agents need to know what the score is. We cannot afford another summer balls up and need a strategy from the off.

If you do well as a manager you're in demand, no point pretending otherwise. Cook has been in football all his life, but unlike some I doubt he's wealthy compared to others in his profession as his playing career missed the 'boom time'. His Pompey and current Wigan contract I guess have been his most lucrative. As with Power last year personally I would grudge him trying to maximise his income and securing his families financial future. That said I doubt an Ipswich contract would be any greater to one he's on with us/or would get if he negotiated a new deal. Plus it's some distance from his family in Merseyside and the clubs transfer budget:policy is probably similar to ours. However he may see some financial job security if he feels he isn't wanted by any new owner, hence the clarity that's required.

I know Cook wanted to return closer to home from Pompey to be closer to his family, so you'd think Cook wont be looking to move so far away unless the job opportunity is a massive step up. I think Ipswich is probably not close enough or big enough to seriously tempt him right now. I think he will probably feel there will be better opportunities come along if he hangs on.

If Cook goes onto win the league he will have done everything possible to win manager of the season.

Unfortunately Paul hurst has produced a brilliant season, due to the massive difference in our situations he deserves in my opinion. He took over them last season when they we're bottom of the league, with this seasons expectation's to stay up again.

Their reported wage structure is under 3.7 mill, ours last year was 16.6mill, previously at this level we spent 11.9mill on wages. The following from Jan 2017 below.

"Total expenses including salary costs and amortisation of player contracts increased to £25.7 million from £20 million in the previous year. Player salaries were again the most significant expenditure and total salary costs increased to £16.6 million compared to £11.9 million in the previous year."

Shrewsbury below.

"The promotion-chasing club made £409,294, which was down on the £1.23 million made the previous year.

Turnover also fell by £2.14 million, from £6.85 million in 2016 to £4.71 million last year".

If i had to hazard a guess i'd say we lost between 5-15 million this season. It just shows how big an advantage we have with our budget at this level, they may achieve the same or better points tally we had last time at this level. To be fair to them they've been up at the top of the table with a very limited budget all season.

I'll be happy if Cook get's it though, as like said before he did everything possible to win it. But for shrewsbury that would be like us finishing third in the championship next season, so for me with their situation Paul hurst deserves to win it.

Forgot to mention on the shrews.

"The amount spent on salaries in the 2016/17 seasons was £3.5 million, marginally lower than the £3.7 million in the previous season".

We'll know the numbers at the end of the season. We were expected to be promoted this season along with blackburn. Which Cook has achieved.

Last year we weren't massively out spent on wages like some think. It's looking like we've spent 3 times more per a week than shrewsbury this season.

But lets be real Paul hurst has been the best manager in this league this season.

I don't know if we'll have lost that much -we had the Yanic money, a large sell on from Hendry, trimmed our squad size significantly and got rid of a few big earners plus the FA Cup money.

Also i imagine a few players could've had relegation wage reduction clauses.

I think there is a good chance we lost a bit but if it was as high as 10 or 15m i dont think we'd have even considered keeping hold of the likes of Burn, Morsy and Powell. We we are run quite sensibly i can't see the club putting that much debt onto the books in one season.

We were told at the shareholders meeting the salary bill had been slashed from mid to late teens (millions) to single figures, I can't remember the exact numbers, it might have been from 19 to 7 or maybe from 17 to 9.
It was projected that we expect to lose £10M this season, although that was prior to the cup run proper.
I'm sure there are other shareholders on here who can confirm this.
So to achieve what we have in that environment is a massive testament to those running the club, including the managers ability to orchestrate such a positive aura about the place.
