I know Ioan touched on this in the other thread, but I think it deserves it's own:

"If [Spurs] don't win the title, it's not a tragedy," said Conte.

"If they don't arrive in the Champions League, it's not a tragedy. If they go out in the first round of the Champions League, it's not a tragedy. If they go out after the first game that they play in the Europa League, it's not a tragedy.

"Maybe for Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and - I don't know - Liverpool, it is a tragedy. You must understand the status of the team.

"Every team has to understand what their ambitions are. If their ambitions are to fight for the title or win the Champions League, you must buy expensive players. Otherwise you continue to stay in your level. It's simple."

"My question is this: What are Tottenham's expectations?"

I am sure it will upset the precious side of our fan base, but minus the expensive players - he is right isnt he?

Firstly I think he should keep his opinions to himself. Secondly, it's not as black and white as that - for a start us not buying expensive players does not mean we don't show ambition, it's just sensible business.
As Levy has stated, it's not sustainable so why get into silly deals just to show ambition!?

I'd rather we carry on as we are than risk disrupting the harmony we have in the squad with some big money/big ego players!

What is our ambition though?

Do you think if Mopo won nothing in three years at Chelsea he would still be in a job?

If showing ambition means spending 150mil on players, then I'd rather we were branded as 'lacking ambition'.
Does it mean we showed more ambition the year we sold Bale and bought 'The Beatles'?!
Well, we know how that 'ambitious' season ended.

Silly idiot, he's obviously worried about us.

This. He is very worried. He was last season as well.

If we weren't a threat he wouldn't even mention us.

Also, I think he is annoyed that Pochettino gets better reviews than him because Pochettino is working with less and getting close to beating him while Conte had the advantage of a non Euro schedule.....and gazillions of dollars.

Conte is right. As a club we have no football ambition, and haven't since Lewis and Levy became 'custodians'.

He is only talking about us, because we stand alone in not having bought anyone and the Press is awash with the pro's and con's of that.

We cannot know of course, but if I had gazillions of dollars I would bet every single one of them that had Porky been in charge of Chelsea last year, they would not have won the league. I doubt whether Conte is especially worried about being eclipsed by a manager who has never won anything, but managed to come third in a two-horse race.

I remember a couple of posters on here were saying how worried he was last season when they had their little blip and we know what happened after.

That would be me. He is either legitimately worried or he is the second coming of Jose Mourinho.

Either way he is a dick.

I don't understand why hes a dick. Seems a respectable guy.

Just because he is spending money on players means nothing in this current climate. So what if he has spent 150m, they have been forced to pay the going rate for players they want. We choose not to.

We will see if his words are true.

Just something about him that annoys me. He is obviously a great manager. Managing that many egos and winning the league in his first season shows how good he is but it also shows how bad it was with Mourinho.

Hard to disagree with Conte. Don't see what the problem is, he is telling it like it is but some spurs fans won't like it as the truth hurts.

Spending money does not show ambition. It means you have money to spend.

He mentions teams whom he sees have ambition because of their spend, yet we finished above them but don't have ambition? Bollox.

Spending money?

70 million net in 2 years and won the league - which is we judge ourselves by.

Not spending the vast sums accused of.

He's answering a question directed him after our Chairman slated spending.

Kiwi how do you think we got our first 11 together? We spent money. It's not Conte's fault transfer fee's are ridiculously high.

Bottom line is Levy will penny pinch every single deal and is classed as a genius by many, yet when the shoe is on the other foot he doesn't like it. The bloke is a hypocrite.

Chelsea's net spend is irrelevant.

He inherited a world class squad with the highest wage bill in the PL. He didn't need to buy much, and the money he spent last season (120 million) was balanced by silly money paid for Oscar.

This season they managed to balance the books, but if you look closer youll see its due to sh1tloads of money lost on players they sold.

Not a good example.

While he has some good points, you don't go talk about your rivals and question their ambitions in public. Respectable managers stick to speaking about their own teams. Others, like Jose and now Conte, are classless.

He knows what he's doing, he trying to stir sh1t up.

He may have done us a favour. The players might want to prove him wrong and go and win something.

More than ever I want to see the Chavs stumble now .

Of course he's right in what he says but he has no right to say it about us. If an ex manager/player says it then fair enough, he's just playing mind games already. You don't hear Poch (or many other managers) commenting on other teams in a negative way.

Obviously has no class, suits them down to the ground.
