Conor Chaplin

That's why he's in demand!

Rumour has it, which isn't a surprise, among the numerous clubs 'keeping an eye' on Conor Chaplin are Liverpool and Derby?

The 'reports' have grown in the past few days to a week that scouts from both clubs are keeping a closer eye on him all the while.

Fortunately Chaplin, who isn't - and quite rightly shouldn't be - in too much of a hurry to move on, signed a new long-term contract recently so this 'protects' Pompey in a way, as much as any contract can with these meaning little to nothing these days mind!

All being well there ISN'T a 'release clause' in this deal...if there is it's heavily stacked on our favour.

Even if there is a release clause, as long as it is at a decent level - high 6-figures, then we should be Ok.

I don't want him held back, but moving to Liverpool or Derby would just see him in the reserves or development squad. He would be well advised to stay at Pompey and bag a load of goals in L2.

And then the same in L1 hopefully eh!

Do agree, we wouldn't want to hold him back but going anywhere for the foreseeable would do just that as he'll not develop in a 'bigger clubs' ressies will he...

Like Chaplin, but due to injury, Tubbs hasn't been involved but after his winning goal against Northampton he credited the goal poacher for improving his 'predatory instincts.'

Highly unlikely Tubbs will be here after the window opens, for a long time its been clear that Cookie prefers other strikers to Tubbs, now I think he will move on.

If Tubbs hadn't been injured before the loan window closed I'm almost certain he would have been gone already.

We'll not get a fee, which giving a goalscorer like him away will be a shame BUT I'd reckon we'll let him go for nothing to get him off the wage bill as he's on VERY good money by all accounts!

Having sat out the win over Salisbury, Chaplin gave Jackett a glimpse of his ability when hitting a hat trick at Havant. Huddersfield loan signing Holmes-Dennis was involved.

Yes, only a friendly I know but I reckon this hat trick could be HUGE for Chaplin.

He clearly went off the boil last season - for whatever reason - but in his first run out of the season a 15 minutes hat trick would have done him the world of good and left Kenny Jackett quietly confident of Chaplin getting back to his best on a regular basis.

I'm liking the prospect of Conor Chaplin and Brett Pitman.

With Nicke Kambaba and Jamal Lowe, working on the assumption Curtis Main will stay but Michael Smith will go - even if he doesn't - Pompey have a decent forward line.

Portsmouth are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after this week's action.

Conor Chaplin racked up his 100th appearance for Pompey in Tuesday when he marked his return from injury with a place on the bench - coming on at half time in the defeat at Doncaster.

Chaplin has this week seen 'links' to a Premier League move at Bournemouth with Fulham, Ipswich and QPR said to be among those in the Championship to 'admire' the striker.

Chaplin had a contract with Pompey until 2018 but ahead of the disappointing Notts County defeat he extended his contract with the Blues until 2019.

Great to get him tied down to a new deal, not convinced he'll be here to see it out BUT should ensure a better fee for him when he does leave.

Couple of great chances he missed last weekend, which were very unlike him.

When Chaplin wasn't named in the squad against Morecambe saying eyebrows were raised was an understatement. Cook, not that he has to in many ways, has explained his absence.

Connor Chaplin's first involvement in several weeks ended with him scoring a dramatic goal at the Stadium MK, sending Pompey home with the points and the travelling fans away ecstatic.

Chaplin, rightly, was delighted - so were we after Saturday - but now it's time for him to step up. Yes, he's still only young but it's time for him to prove he's first team material and cannot be left out of the side, when in it he produces the goods.

Will he?
