Bluejelly fish in power and failing to call the shots. Public not to blame for his failings.
You are clearly a labour supporter regardless of policy or right, I prefer to stay unaligned and vote for, or support, on a parties current policy.
If I were to adopt the reactive style I would blame the NHS for our problems, there are many countries with far higher confirmed cases than us, yet massively lower deaths. The immediate thoughts must be that the NHS operates at a far lower standard than other countries health services, I don't actually believe that is the case. If you look behind the obvious headline figure, the first thing you see is that we have a far higher proportion of elderly and under lying health conditions than a lot of other countries, testament to the quality of the NHS and government support that achieves that rather than let them die.
The UK is the last country in the world to have someone contract and die from smallpox, should we blame the labour government of the day for allowing this to happen?

In 1968/9 we had a pandemic called Hong Kong flu there were about 30,000 deaths in the UK. I asked some friends about it and like me the couldn't at first remember it(none of us has dementia):grinning: as no actions were taken to mitigate the effects, and it life just went on. Nobody bothered to asked the scientists.

There are so many similarities between CV and Hong Kong flu I am surprised it is rarely mentioned. I was very young at the time, but I do remember it as a 'thing'. Worldwide more than 1 million died - including over 100,000 in the US.

There was no lockdown - no chance to work from home I guess. Slightly worrying there was a more deadly second wave although the whole virus had gone within two years ...... actually not quite true as the virus still exists, in a milder form, as the strain of flu.

I am taking all this as encouraging - being a glass half full kind of chap.

Really rather patronising to label me a Labour supporter and so dismiss my views. I'm as independent or otherwise as you are.

Your comments about the NHS may or may not hit the mark but I was commenting on this government's inability to agree a policy and stick to it. I think thatb failing is fairly widely acknowledged.

That is a dumb remark given the mask mainly protects others from you.You may ot may not be the most vulnerable who knows if their actions since the virus started might have caused others to be infected or even die.As you can have it with no symptoms we are told. This seems very believable given the spread of this virus.

Do you wear one now then when you go to the shops?

The thing with wearing masks is the number of times people touch, adjust or move their mask up and down. There was a scientist guy on the tv the other night saying that as soon as you touch your mask with your your fingers you become far more likely to spread the virus (if you have it) to others by touching things others then touch than by not wearing a mask as it stays on things you touch a lot longer than it stays air born. Don't know how true this is.
.

Watching the horse racing, the stable staff are supposed to wear face masks but there are all different sorts some of which dont seem very secure. Some were worn over the mouth, leaving the nose exposed.

Last time I went to the supermarket I saw an old guy wearing a mask all the way round. He got to the checkout and took his mask off to speak to the cashier.

I can go to the supermarket on Saturday and not wear a mask, but when I go the following week I will have to. I won't be able to nip into.a shop for 30 seconds to buy a newspaper without mask, but I can sit in a cafe for 30 mins eating a full English without one. It might make sense to some people, it doesn't make sense to me.

Have you tried eating a full English with a mask on?

My niece works for Sainsbury's, and the exact words from the top are to 'encourage, not enforce'. Same as they were told previously about social-distancing and 'one person per household', and that was a farce. The amount of people in one aisle quite frightening at times, and families and groups inside in fours and fives at other times!
Yeah, they should enforce that. 1 person per family in the shop. And people that aren't vulnerable should leave the home delivery slots free for people that are vulnerable. That way vulnerable people won't need to go to supermarkets, leaving the rest of us free to make their own decision.

Why is this coming in the end of July? It's not going to stop the spread amongst Asian sweatshops or Eastern European fruit pickers. The horse has well and truly bolted

The advice for pubs and restaurants is social distancing and waiter service, supermarkets have people continually moving around making social distancing very difficult. When the distancing rules are likely to be breached, the wearing of a face mask is required. Very easy to understand and achieve unless you have no consideration for anybody but yourself.

So is the social distancing in supermarkets going to be discontinued?

As far as my experience is concerned it has been already! Many people seem totally oblivious of the one way systems and are quite happy to barge past just as they would have before
Tesco, along with others, have dropped the one way system now which has attracted many complaints.
