Colchester United (a): What 3 Things Did We Learn?

To quote Martin Johnson

There's only three things wrong with this team:

They can't bat,
They can't bowl,
They can't field.

History says they went on to win.

Is cricket really your specialist subject UBJ. I assume this cricket quote wasn't really from Martin Johnson, the former Enland Rugby captain.

No it wasn't and yes it is my specialist subject ?

It was from Martin Johnson the cricket correspondent, formerly of The Independent. Moved to the Torygraph in the 90s.

1986-87 Australia 1 England 2
"There are only three things wrong with the English team - they can't bat, they can't bowl, and they can't field." Martin Johnson's famous assessment of England 's early-tour travails was no exaggeration. A thumping defeat by Queensland was followed by a near-repeat against Western Australia, and the knives were being sharpened for a side that had lost eight of its last 11 Tests, including three series in a row against West Indies, India and New Zealand. But it remained a cheerful squad in spite of the bad press, and with larger-than-life characters such as Ian Botham, David Gower, Allan Lamb and Phil Edmonds on board, there was no brooding permitted. England duly rallied to rout Australia in the first Test at Brisbane, and by the time England had retained the Ashes with a game to spare, Johnson had revised his original verdict: "Right line, wrong team".

1. We probably brought Shackell back a couple of games early, if Wharton was in better form he could of played central alongside Bozzy and maybe ease Shackell in slower.
2. The last 3 games has brought us all back down to earth and served us with a reality check. It was always going to be tough Saturday but the previous 2 games had put extra pressure on us, many of us would of settled for a draw Saturday but the first goal was crucial and maybe nerves were a lot to do with the poor defending which led to it.
3. Our front 4 have got to get further up the field as a unit and help Akinde out more, we didn't seem any more of an attacking threat even after Green and Rheady got on.
