Club to close on Wednesday afternoon

We still have early closing for many local stores where I live and, in the days of yore [1960s], all the shops in Regent Street and Oxford Street shut on a Saturday afternoon so many could go and watch their favourite football team.

Blimey Wayne, in what god forsaken backwater do you live? Even here in Harrogate, it's mainly 7 day a week trading (though not 24 hour). A few small places, mainly cafes, do close on Mon and/or Tues though.

My Dad used to close our shop in Rochester on a Tuesday afternoon for some reason. I never thought to ask why.

Regarding football, I was reminded by a TV prog a while back that they used to play matches on the afternoon of 25 Dec as well.

I live in the sticks near Clapham a few miles west of Settle and there is early closing in Bentham, Ingleton and Settle itself. When we first moved to Yorkshire, we rented up the Ripon Road - just up the hill from the convention centre; then we went to Ripon before squatting in the west. Still in Yorkshire [just] about half way between Skipton and Kendall.
