This isn't new, it's not like it was not known about but it's a compelling angle on how Bible passages could have been wrongly interpreted when the meaning was abuse and not consent.

Makes more sense that it was about being against abuse... albeit with the Roman's, they would force the 'lesser' people, slaves etc..

I've always thought it against the teachings that some think they can exclude a fair percentage of the population when the teachings are meant to be about love, understanding and tolerance.

It is a shame when bigotry and intolerance and a total lack of understanding is what some take from it.

The thing that really pisses me of is the people who only take from the good book what suits their life style, Jehova's would watch a child die rather than let it have a blood transfusion!!!!
If a doctor did that he would go to jail charged with assisted murder...

Yup, not just the bible, it's all religious teachings. Then again, people do the same with the stuff in the press!

But yes, the Jehova's position on blood transfusions is incredibly strange. IF God created man, he created man to evolve and survive. HE created man in his image. So medical science etc would all stem from that.

How any parent could allow their child to die in the name of religion is something most just can't and will never be able to comprehend really isn't it?

Society evolves, making progress and falling backwards. That's what makes all these old texts nothing but an historical artifact. Leading your life by 5,000 year rules, assuming they're even correct today, is madness.

Great try to add more to the story, though. I wish I'd been an archaeologist.

Great try to add more to the story, though. I wish I'd been an archaeologist.

An archaeologist was digging in the Negev Desert in Israel and came upon a casket containing a mummy. After examining it, he called the curator of a prestigious natural history museum.

"I've just discovered a 3,000 year old mummy of a man who died of heart failure!" the excited scientist exclaimed.

To which the curator replied, "Bring him in. We'll check it out."

A week later, the amazed curator called the archaeologist. "You were right about the mummy's age and cause of death. How in the world did you know?"

"Simple...there was a piece of paper in his hand that said - put me down for 10,000 Shekels on Goliath'."
