Claudio Bravo 2016-17

Alert Team
So. A few more games under his belt and he still managed to give me the jitters on a couple of occasions against the Baggies. It's ironic but I have found myself going from screaming at Joe Hart to get a move on and distribute the ball into wanting Bravo to pick it up and look at it every now and then!

Because if he was any good as an outfielder he wouldn't be allowed to pick it up. goalies are allowed to pick it up or boot it when the opposition coming for you.

Depends whether or not they're in their box or whether it's been played by a team mate or opponent :048:

Sorry - this was in response to Buzz

When he's delayed moving the ball on, his defenders have been closed down and he's surrounded with no options!

He's not really guilty of delaying moving the ball on though, is he?

I've been on the fence with regard to Claudio, to give him time to adapt but I am now edging towards missing Joe, and I confess if, given the choice, I'd take Joe back now.

He's played 10 games for us, so yes, in my very humble opinion, he has had time to bed in.
But I stand to be corrected and will happily hold my hands up if he proves to be a better option than Joe.

Fair enough - it is only 7 weeks he's been here though. Out of interest, how will you measure whether or not he's been a better option than Joe?

Just as you would expect - making less mistakes, not getting sent off - you know, that sort of thing.
As I've said, happy to be proved wrong but at the mo, I think I would prefer Joe.

I'm a fan based on what I've seen so far, most of the hairy moments have come from our outfield players not being as comfortable with the ball as Bravo is used to ( excepting of course the dropped ball at the swamp and them miskick at Barca ). They look like risky passes but they wouldn't be regarded as such if he was playing for a team like Barca, who have been playing this way for years.

I was all for Joe getting a chance to adapt ( always thought he was over criticised for his distribution )but now that I've seen what's required I'm sure Pep has made the right call. Old dog new tricks and all that malarkey.

I have said before he was giving my nerves a bit of a shake with what in my mind was holding on to the ball a bit too long before passing but now I tend to agree with Blueys point re our defenders.
A bit early yet to be looking at changing him.

I am not happy with Joe or Bravo. I think we need a keeper better than both. Our current #1 needs more time to get used to a defence system and player changes for each game.

Well. I criticised him in my Palace write up last night and the MEN have also slated him in their player ratings. They didnt mention the communication issue:

"Great save from Benteke's header as Palace pushed, but he allowed Wickham's shot to fly through him - and for a keeper brought infor use of his feet, he gave it away an awful lot 5"

By my reckoning we are roughly a third into the games we will play this season. Is he capable of going the distance without more errors?

What errors? He didn't make a single error yesterday. Made some great catches which took the pressure off at crucial times.
Wickham's shot was a thunderbolt from what 12 yards? Might have been luckier with it but not an easy save.

I find this absurd.

Check out Wickham's second in that vid, I'm sure you all remember it anyway.

MEN player ratings from the day

"Hart 6 - Long spells where he simply had to catch crosses and stay alert, but made a vital stop to keep out Colback"

???

Wickham's shot didn't go 'through' Bravo as far as I'm concerned - it was well and truly thumped from 10-12 yards and I would defy any keeper to have stopped it. It certainly didn't go through his legs as I think was posted on the MDT. His collision with Kompany was possibly avoidable but as much down perhaps to Kompany's lack of game time especially with the club's new keeper. I'm pretty sure that if he hadn't come for the ball and Kompany hadn't made it there would have comments about him not 'commanding his area'. The one with Stones vs the rags - I am sure he can be seen shouting but once again that was his first competitive game and Stonesy wouldn't have been used to him either.

On the Kompany incident, again I'm baffled as to why anyone thinks Bravo did anything wrong. For me he got it absolutely right, he was committed, showed bravery and dealt with the situation, it's indecision in them moments that usually leads to conceding a goal, so bravo Claudio.

I too think he had to come for that ball and he did so bravely risking a clattering himself. I will have to look at it again to see whether there was any hesitancy on the part of VK as he chased the ball back in - that is, whether Bravo himself was unsure whether Kompany was going to deal with it and so he made the decision to do so.
